You know, I was just thinking about how I’ve used my plier wrenches over the year and I’m kinda surprised how little I’ve used them over an adjustable wrench. Outside of some plumbing and yard work, I’ve really only used them to bend stuff. My adjustable wrenches see way more work.

First sign of the G2 Icon ratchets ….

Oh, for sure there was some kind of collection of data points for SBD to dictate what to do. It’s just crazy to see what they ended up going with. My assumption is techs today like longer lengths with fatter grips.

First sign of the G2 Icon ratchets ….

MAC’s new Max90 lineup is also pretty confusing. Not a lot of options available for guys that want the chrome handles and a lot of long options only for the comfort grips. I guess they figure it would be smarter to push long comfort handles over anything else.

First sign of the G2 Icon ratchets ….

It’s because HF is releasing their version of the Snap-on ratchet line. It’s a mirror and I doubt you’d see anything launched from Icon’s ratchet lineup that doesn’t have a Snap-on equivalent. I don’t hate HF, in fact I shop there quite a bit for automotive stuff, but their inability to create...

Went and saw the Snap-on man Thursday. Grabbed another pocket pry bar because those things are stupidly handy. Also snatched a slim jaw 6” adjustable. The chrome makes it feel like jewelry. 😂

    New MAC Axis ratchets

Cool beans! My only complaint with my Matco ratchets is the leaking oil every time I lube them up. It seeps through all the openings and gets everywhere. Not the end of the world but they need to be serviced/lubed way more than my Snappys because they aren’t sealed. I was worried the MAC...

    New MAC Axis ratchets

Since you have had some time with the new ratchet, would you say it’s sealed? Like if you put lube or oil in it would it deep out or not? MAC claims that it’s a sealed head design.

Wright Tools Disappointment (Transforms to Respect)

Was it in Schiller Park? Both of the players I used to run to were in Schiller and both were just not a fun place to be.

    Harry J Epstein Day 2026

Hence the irony, my good man. 😁

Wright Tools Disappointment (Transforms to Respect)

When I started as an apprentice I used to have to swing by the platers to drop-off/pick-up parts. I would never want that job. It looked like I stepped back into the Gilded Age but with modern machines buzzing overhead. I can’t see how those guys have any longevity in life just off all the...

    Harry J Epstein Day 2026

I missed it last year for some stupid reason but I’ll probably be in this year. Though the irony is that I’ll be getting no US-made tools. Too many good Japanese and Euro tools at HJE to not be tempted…

    Collecting tools?

I personally go out of my way to purchase new tools made in my local metro area or in the stare or from companies that are based here. But I try to do that with everything. No real reason other than I like my neighbors, my state, and it makes me feel good. So I guess that could be a form of...

    New MAC Axis ratchets

Dang! Seeing those ratchets next to each other…the Max90 is just thicc. Not necessarily a bad thing but it’s noticeably larger in every aspect. Also, the internals look about as simple as my Matco ratchets which is great for servicing them.

    2026 Tool Truck Sightings

Went to visit the Matco guy and found the MAC guy too! Just the other side of Villa Park. Our area is pretty lucky to have several Snappy guys, a Matco guy and a couple of MAC guys.

    New MAC Axis ratchets

If you get on the truck or order one online, you’ll see that it says Made in USA with global components on the back of the cardboard tag. Everyone says they aren’t MiUSA because there is nothing physically stamped on the ratchet. But they are MiUSA per MAC.

    Reorganizing your drawers...

Half my tools at the house are on top of my toolbox. They are there because I am perpetually working on the layout of my home boxes. Craftsman boxes aren’t very deep nor do they have a lot of drawers so it’s a constant pain trying to get everything to fit. At work I think I reorganize my...

    New MAC Axis ratchets

It’s made in the USA per MAC. I’m sure there is some component that isn’t and that is why it’s not stamped USA. They did the same thing with their previous locking ratchets. As to why, the Taiwanese are great tool makers and they seem to have a big chunk of the ratcheting tool designs...

Wright Tools Disappointment (Transforms to Respect)

That sounds about for Wright — an item being on backorder, I mean. 🤣 Glad they just need the photo. They’ve had a lot of pushback online when they tried to have distributors handle all their warranty stuff. Maybe they are catching on and adapting to the environment.

Wright Tools Disappointment (Transforms to Respect)

On the other hand, maybe you work a job that’s a clean environment and you can’t have or are prohibited from using **** tools on high dollar machinery? Every situation is unique and that’s why I try not to judge or give out blanket statements. My last shop would have crucified anyone using...

Wright Tools Disappointment (Transforms to Respect)

You’re not crazy on the last pic. I had a bunch of wrenches with the same shallow broach on the open end. I also had the chrome peel, non-uniformed box end bends, and the beam warps. To be fair, I also have Stahlwille, Gedore, and Proto wrenches with bends in them. I used to be a big fan of...
