    Grounding electrode at detached garage

In Canada the sub-panel does not use another ground rod. You must wire the ground back to the panel. Having 2 distant grounding points on the system can cause "issues", which is why the NEC specifies that the 2 grounding rods must be within 6 feet. There can be a different potential at the 2...

    Snap-On/Mac/Cornwell vs Craftsman

Thanks for all the ideas guys. The two areas I was thinking about buying of the truck brands is screwdrivers and ratchets. The machining of a screwdriver is SOOOO important to keeping your fasteners from getting ruined and a ratchet is just such an important tool. I just don't think I could...

    Most Disappointing CL/Kijiji Misses

It's a piss off especially because I was trying to be nice and not call at 7:30 in the morning and wake some guy up, but in hindsight I should have!

    Snap-On/Mac/Cornwell vs Craftsman

Hello, I am a backyard kind of guy, I don't work in a shop and I am not a mechanic. What I don't understand is the price difference between the big brands and other brands like Craftsman. I have always been puzzled by this. I recently bought a combo wrench set from Sears from 3/8" (maybe...

    Most Disappointing CL/Kijiji Misses

Hi, I will tell you what I missed out on yesterday. I check Kijiji for tools a few times a day. Yesterday morning a guy had posted 2 ads, one for a Harris style torch set $100 and another for air tools: 3 impacts (1 IR, 1 SO and 1 CP), DA, buffer, grinder, drill & hammer, $100!!! I almost $hit...

    Safety-Kleen Kijiji Find

Hi, I found this on Kijiji in my area. I have been looking for a parts washer for a couple of years but never got around to buying one. I had seen the cheepo ones at Princess Auto (Canada's HF) but the kind we have at our shops at work are always the kind with the barrel under a sink. This one...

    lighting a 30 x 40 shop

Check out the High output florescent. That's what I used and they are also cold weather starting. I have 3 x 8' in my 31x24' with 10' walls and OSB interior. The bulbs are expensive but very bright you can get them up to 100W! For a florescent that is LOTS of light...

    Cummins Onan p5450e

That is where the Onan part comes in. The old miller welders like the AEAD 200LE use a gas Onan engine and they are indestructible. I don't know how the Cummins comes into it, maybe they bought Onan, I think Onan makes the generator end too.

Electric motor: can a 10hp 3phase be rewired to 10hp single phase?

Rewinding is an expensive proposition. Especially if you want it changed to a different voltage. Especially on a relatively new machine like you described, it will not be worth rewinding. Find yourself a single phase motor. But! keep in mind 10hp is a lot of power for 220V I have a 3hp motor on...

    Cummins Onan p5450e

They don't want mine. It is a long post but when I checked the serial it is not a part of the recall. However, if it was I would fight to keep it.

    Compressor install question

If you can stomach it you are best to leave it on the pallet. Gives you more room underneath to drain it and isolates it from the floor. We have many shops and most of our compressors are sitting on the original pallet. Besides that, you will want a couple of buddies to move a complete 80 gal...

    Cummins Onan p5450e

Hello All, I wanted to pass on my experience with this generator. We moved to a rural area last May and thought it prudent to get a generator since we are on well etc. The house already had a transfer switch so that made it an easier decision. I also thought it would be cool for odd jobs since...

    Quietest Compressor ???

I think the old vintage ones are the quietest. They run much slower. But I don't think you can find one online! I just put back together a 1964 Brunner.

    Air Compressor Electrical Outlet Questions

OK. 14 gauge wire is only good for 15A. So you should be changing out your cord to 10ga. You might want to use 10-2 BX for your power cord, it is more expensive but since you only need a metre or so it won't matter too much. BX is armoured with aluminum so it won't be crushed as easily. How...

Electric or Gas in B.C. Canada

Ah yes, I saw them at Princess in Sudbury. But we are on propane so it has to be the smaller one. I was thinking separated combustion for dust issues etc but I assume the Mr. Heater is not separated.

    Air Compressor Electrical Outlet Questions

Have a look at the outlet. From what you are describing it is a NEMA 50R. Like an oversized 3 prong outlet right? It should say on it somewhere. If so, each of the slots will be connected to a hot on the breaker and then you will have the hole as a ground. Confirm this in your box to make sure...
