Question about Torque Multiplier for removing/installing commercial truck lug nuts.

I think before I'd buy a cheap torque multiplier, I'd buy a cheap 3/4" 600 ft-lb max torque wrench (3/4" torque wrench ) . Depends on how often you are doing this. If you are doing a lot of this, open the wallet and get a decent one for a couple of hundred instead Or get a digital torque...

    Books!

This post is not about very old books. But somewhat moderately old. Background - when I was a pre-teen, one of my close friends introduced me to Doc Savage books. He had collected every book in the series (these books were compiled from the old serial magazines) and had a wall of those books. I...

    Books!

After having fun using the 1939 Marks' Handbook as a reference source, I started looking online for more old books. I found this very nice condition old reference book - 1946 edition of the Handbook of Engineering Fundementals. So, it was placed right next to my Marks'. Sometimes, for fun if my...

    Books!

Before retirement, I used to keep a few text books and reference books at my desk to help out at my job (Engineer). Everyone I worked with kept a Marks' Handbook at his desk and I came across at a yard sale an older one and decided I'd use that one. I compared it to some more recent editions and...

    Ego 16" String Trimmer (ST1623T)

I have the same Ego. It was a major upgrade from my old Ryobi. Luckily, I already had an Ego blower and chainsaw so I already had 2 batteries and chargers. So, I bought the string trimmer tool only and saved a lot. While I find it a little heavy and exhausting to carry up the driveway (200...

Hot glue gun that doesn't ****?

My wife does the PDR on our cars and also does a lot of crafts. She loves hot glue guns but the Ryobi cordless are her favorites. She has the mini and regular size stick versions. I bet she has at least 8 different hot glue guns - some cordless, some corded but Ryobi is her go-to for PDR and the...

Need a sign when the garage door is open-

Crazy idea. Get a solar powered bird feeder camera and have the door within range. It will alert you to motion, you can check on it remotely, and best of all, you can watch the birds. We use bird feeder cameras to watch the birds and my wife enjoys the birds. When placing them, I always set the...

What are your most and least used 1/4 drive sockets for car work

Whole set of universal sockets. The adapter takes up too much space. Like this (I just pulled up some off Amazon, I don't know much about this brand):

Tell me about gearwrench combination wrench sets

That is great news. I have had that set on my Amazon Wish list for a few months hoping that it would be a birthday gift but since I didn't get them (I got better stuff also on the list), I feel good about just buying them myself.

My take on improving the harbor freight shop press. Stainless steel machined release screw.

I love it. I have the same shop press and I too would buy one.

Blackboard or Whiteboard for shop use

Your right. I just went back and re-read. It was cost and life. (5 for $1.25 and last about a year here).

Blackboard or Whiteboard for shop use

Same here! We have a extra large one that we use for tracking oil changes, service items, handy torque values, spark plug gap, etc.... and things sit for years on it. But a little alcohol takes care of clean up. We also bought some real small ones with nice frames that we put in our kitchens...

What tool for a lady to remove tight lug nuts?

I like the breaker bar idea but don't rule out the torque multiplier. I got one for Christmas and have had some fun using it on lug nuts that usually need a big breaker bar. Works great. Small case fits well in trunk and you don't have to be a big strong guy to loosen tight lug nuts.

    CE, UL, ETL, etc.

Disclaimer: This may be old information as it occurred over a decade ago and perhaps things have changed. I used to be responsible for our equipment specifications. Historically, we had required UL listings. I was asked by our suppliers if they could use ETL tested to those same standards to...

Adding Relays To Your Headlights, Low Beam & High Beam

Ah...nothing like having a large car with lots of room to place things. A friends keep telling me to collect big classic American cars (which they know that I love) just because there is so much more room. I agree with @Beerhippie , connectors down is always better, even it using waterproof...

Adding Relays To Your Headlights, Low Beam & High Beam

This is a great project to do. Our '69 Alfa Spider switched all the lights through tiny contacts on the steering wheel mounted lever. After all the decades, those contacts just don't cut it. So I did the same project. The only difficulty I had was trying to figure out where to mount the relays...

    Garage door opener questions

We only have 4 garage doors on our house (plus 2 at our coastal house). 3 are Liftmaster/Chamberlain and 1 is a Genie. All are standard overhead openers. Unfortunately, it requires 3 different openers. 2 of the Chamberlains (downstairs garage) are on 1 remote (we have 2 of those remotes), one...
