How many ratchets do you own?

Do we have to talk about this? I'm guessing around 18-20, which is more than I need. Thanks to GJ, I'm up for a few more, if the price is right. Working on my Tacoma last week, I thought I would use a Snap On F936 (3/8"), but opted for the Dual 80. After the starter replacement job, my...

    Refurbishing SK Ratchets

There is a cheap and easy solution. Scrape off any loose/pealing chrome, feather the edges (as stated above), degrease, then paint the areas where the chrome is missing with Rustoleum silver hammered finish paint. I've done it a number of times and it works pretty well for "user grade"...

    USA Hand Tool Brand

    Look to S-K Tools!:lol_hitti Last night, I purchased a pair of S-K 6" pliers on-line for $11; 8" were $14.

    Channellock quality slipping?

I recently purchased a simple 6" pair of Channellock pliers, mainly because my older Channellock slip joint gas pliers have all been good. These were pretty unimpressive. Yesterday, I bought a 6" pair of S-K pliers, which I'm hoping are better. And, hopefully, an American (sounding) name...

    Fasteners - Where do you

If you don't want to drive all over town looking, you can do much worse than McMaster Carr. They don't gouge on shipping, which is a second win! https://www.mcmaster.com/

Vise Mounting - what side of the bench do you use? Left or right?

My grandfather, dad and I all are/were right handed with vises mounted on the left side. As far as I know, there was no collusion involved in mounting location. Speaking for mine, I just felt it would work out best there and have no regrets after 15 years or so.

    Solar on my home?

Your questions are valid. What type are you thinking of? Leased, owned, lease to purchase, financed or one of the 100 other plans that are out there?

    Sams/Honeywell Portable LED Worklight

I've also got the Costco version branded as Snap On. I love that light. All the light you need without the heat. Great value.

Your Favorite Tool Purchase of 2017

I've bought several tools this year that I am very happy to have, but if I were to name just one, I will name the Knipex pliers wrench part #86 03 180. I've had more instances than expected where it's been very handy to have pliers with smooth face jaws to reduce/eliminate marring of certain...

Wilton Woodworking Vise - Help Needed

Exmaxima, thank you for the pointer regarding the direction of the nut! I got that turned around and re-installed correctly and it now works perfectly! Without your kind help, I would've been scratching my head for who knows how long.

Wilton Woodworking Vise - Help Needed

Exmaxima, thank you for the advice! I didn't see the last tip that my nut is on backwards. I purchased a brass washer, filed it to size and dropped it in with the slug on top of it, but it did not produce the desired results. That's when I saw your suggestion to turn the nut around. I'll...

Wilton Woodworking Vise - Help Needed

So, I bought this woodworking vise without testing it and assumed it worked. Next, I took the rear plate (drag bar) off as it wasn't held captive with a washer and cotter key in an effort to clean and grease the acme main screw and guide rods. Upon re-installing the rear plate, I wound the...

    Spreading the Bonney affliction!

I have a two car garage with no air compressor, so I bought speed handles in 3/8" and 1/2". I've come to use them fairly often, especially for tire changes. I like that they're quiet - no compressor kicking in! I can be in the garage working away in peace, yet much faster than using a...

    Show your Railroad Rail Anvils

Last winter/spring (2017), there was a gentleman located in the front range of Colorado advertising reasonably priced custom roadroad rail anvils on Craigslist. I don't see his ads anymore, but gave serious consideration to having him make one for me. Had I been closer, I certainly would have...
