Epoxy-Coat -Took the plunge " John Deere "

Interesting that they'd recommend DryLok. It's a latex based paint it looks like (not sure)? I guess what worries me about using that is that I would want to wait for it to fully dry before using epoxy over it and at that point I'd worry that i'd need to send it down first before applying...

Epoxy-Coat -Took the plunge " John Deere "

Sounds 'fun!' If it fails.. we'll all commiserate on the 'what's the best way to strip the floor of a bad epoxy install' thread :-D. Or at least on the 'is it ok to install VCT or RaceDeck over an epoxy floor thread :-D

Epoxy-Coat -Took the plunge " John Deere "

Thanks for the info. Yeah I'd try Legacy but I want it today or tomorrow before the possibly wet weekend and I'm sure shipping would be astronomical to get the Legacy primer to me by tomorrow (mind you I haven't asked, but overnight on a relatively heavy shipment like that cannot be cheap...

Epoxy-Coat -Took the plunge " John Deere "

thanks for the reply FamilyO'8. I might just be a donkey with ya (hopefully won't make an a$$ out of myself :-D!) If I can source it locally myself I might go with it too. I'm getting tired of holding off on my floor project since it's been prepped for a while now. Was 'supposed' to rain...

Epoxy-Coat -Took the plunge " John Deere "

Ahh.. familyOf8 you're convincing me to follow suit and use a primer prior to putting down my epoxy coat base coat + clear coat. 1. What made you choose Aquapon over others? 2. What's your plan on how long to wait post-Aquapon application to apply your Epoxy-Coat? Just using the ole...

Epoxy-Coat -Took the plunge " John Deere "

Perfect thanks for the info both of you! That's all anyone really needs to know to figure out how much to mix per given area of their floor. With that info one could say "I have a 400 sq ft floor, given 3 gallons (total=Part A + Part B together) I can have at most ~12.0 mil floors: ((1604...

Epoxy-Coat -Took the plunge " John Deere "

Sorry to hear your measuring stick / product quantity woes! We know for sure that the ratio of Part A to Part B should be 2:1. (2 part A to 1 part B). But what's the correct "volume of {mixed epoxy} per square foot" to achieve 9.7 mil? / .. to achieve 20 mil? This way I can chuck their sticks...

Just used HD's Flior Maintainer w Diamabrush

Thx for the reply FamOf8! Good info. I figured the water was a good recommendation. On the other hand I already have some denatured alcohol in the house! I was just going to dampen my mop / sponge and go to town with it. Does anyone know for sure that denatured alcohol is 'safe' to use as...

Just used HD's Flior Maintainer w Diamabrush

On a related note -- I want to wipe down my floor (post grinding) to remove all the dust. I already vacuumed it several times with my shop vac so there's only a minimal amount of dust that comes up if you say , rub your finger on the floor. Is denatured alcohol good for this? Xylene? I don't...

Just used HD's Flior Maintainer w Diamabrush

I'll also add that h depot has two diamabrush wheels you can rent. The Prep tool and the Coating removal tool. I used the prep tool as I had no existing coating and had heard it was good from other posts here.

Just used HD's Flior Maintainer w Diamabrush

Not sure what counts as a lot of dust. I'd say yes but it isn't the cloud of dust leaving your garage thing. It just leaves a good layer of dust 1/8 or 1/4 inch on the floor. I bought a breather (not just a little cup breather but one of those gas mask looking things). It was $30 but it stays...

Just used HD's Flior Maintainer w Diamabrush

Just wanted to make my remarks on the Hone D's rental Floor maintainer with the Diamabrush disc. My concrete was only a few years old and was level so I just needed something to scuff it up in preparation for epoxy coat. I had heard here that the HD rented this out and that it was good for...

Epoxy: Do you use the bucket again for the next mix?

Do you not have to wash the floor if you grind it prior to epoxying? Is it the same whether you dry grind or wet grind? I'm curious - I will be grinding mine this weekend. Was planning on doing it wet and figured I'd then hose it down and let it dry for at least a week before doing the epoxy.

    Grinder help

I've read here on the forum (haven't done it myself yet) that when you acid etch the concrete floor it tends to leave residue in the pores of the concrete that needs to be rinsed off with a powerwasher to get it out. I don't know if this is totally true but maybe you want a final powerwash to...

Edge of garage floor --> Epoxy question

To answer my own degreaser question, what I've seen from many posts on this forum is that the best thing to do is a combination of turpentine to pull up any stubborn greases, then applying kitty litter or similar to soak up as much of the underlying (oil/whatever is causing the stain). Then...

Great thanks for the info! And yup that's what the shark grip bottle recommends! Very excited to have heard about this and will def try it on mine.

Edge of garage floor --> Epoxy question

Checked it today. that isn't an overlay. The garage was an addition to the house. The house's wall had the two brick sides that stuck out from the rest of the wall. So they used the brick walls as the border for the 2x4s to sit against in constructing the form. So the 'different colored...

    Solutions for Slippery Epoxy Floor?

I'm planning to do my floor soon and and am glad I read this. My new plan is to use shark grip in my clear coat. Leon - can you confirm if your installer 1. mixed it into the clear coat in the bucket or 2. if he sprinkled and back rolled or 3. if he back rolled and sprinkled at the end? All...
