A few general service tool questions

I am debating leaving my current job for a job at Firestone as a C-tech. It seems the C-Tech does a bit of everything, oil changes, brakes, alignments, etc and I had a couple questions of tools I may need to do these jobs. I have acquired a pretty good basic set of tools during my time at the...

    Warrantable Item??

Excellent. Thanks. I'm not usually one to *****, but aren't U Joints supposed to stay tight? I mean I have universal sockets from GearWrench and have ripped on those things HARD and they are still super tight. /thread

    Clean your tools!

+1 For plastic handles I usually use some Simple Green full strength. Seems to work well for me. I love the handles, hate the cleaning!

    Warrantable Item??

I bought a 3pc Craftsman U-Joint set and the 3/8" one is really loose. It can't even hold itself up anymore. I was wondering if I can take it back to Sears for a replacement. Today is my day off and I didn't want to waste a trip to the shop, then to Sears. Can they claim abuse? I was...

Just won this Saturday and got it last night. Been wanting a 325 forever! I bought a BluePoint AT380 from a guy at work who needed cash for $60 and this thing feels like night and day compared to it. I have a $400+ order with the SO guy who better have the stuff this week. Could I trade...

Is this uncouth? Tool truck dilemma

Ok so we have all 4 trucks that stop by our shop frequently and I have done much business with the MAC tool guy. When I first started he would come by almost weekly, then I didn't see him for like 5 or 6 months. Than he started showing up again so I threw some business his way. Well I paid...

    Snap-on Ratchet Owners Question

i have a FHL80 with the grip and I am liking it so far. The handle is beat to hell and cut up, but it doesn't bother me. It does need a little more persuasion when cleaning up, but I do it every two weeks or so with my trusty 3M brake cleaner. The dual 80 is the best ratchet I've used, but...

What's the reason for boxend set size spacing?

Maybe if you're using a wrench of one size, there's a good possibility you'll encounter a bolt with the size of the other end of the wrench. I know on some nissans without auto tensioners my SO 12/14 is great. I just loosen the pulley with the 14, flip it around and use the 12 to remove the...

    Bosch 12 volt Impact

A 12v impact driver isn't going to zip off a crank pulley bolt or 90% of lug nuts I encounter. I have an 18v behemoth for that. But when you need to remove a oil or trans pan with 20+ 10mm bolts, you can get it done in no time. Plus my 18v gun weighs 3 or 4 times what my 12v does. I don't...

    Bosch 12 volt Impact

I have the Bosch Litheon 12V impact and I LOVE it! I use it all the time and comes in handy on skidplate bolts. I also use it to take the plastic covers off wheels before hitting it with the big boy impact to take the lug nuts off. I work in a quicklube so anything to make my job easier/faster...

+1 Since Terrell is so close to the metroplex, will a dealer in Flower Mound, TX have the same specials as you? And these $99 dollar things sound quite interesting.

    twin clutch? or twin hammer?

I have a Nitrocat 1000M and it's stout as hell! I pulled a Honda Accord V6 crank pulley off in about 3 seconds. It's got some balls. I just shoot some Marvel Oil in it once a week or so since I don't use it very often.

SHOW OFF YOUR cordless impact wrenches

Here are my two. I have to say, I don't do a lot of mechanical work at the quick lube I work at, but the Bosch one makes QUICK work of skid plates! I love the damn thing!! And the Ryobi is pretty stout when we get a ti ro in. It's usually me and another guy. I'm on electric he's on the air...

    torx question

Don't forget about E-Torx! But torx bits are measured from point to opposite point and is in multiples of 0.1mm. So a T20 bit is 2.0mm across. There are some oddball sizes, maybe they were proprietary sizes at one point in time, and now they're more mainstream? Oh and has anyone ever come...
