Concrete quote seems a bit high

It doesn't include prep materials... they wanted ME to source the sand, and were even asking if there was somewhere on the property that we could remove sand from. Again, seems a bit of a weak effort to me and is throwing some red flags. I have seen examples of their work and it looks OK...

Concrete quote seems a bit high

Yea, that was my feeling also and I questioned them about that. They seem to think they can get it done that way and that control cuts will be enough to handle any potential cracking issues. Seems like they are just taking the easy way out though, which is one of the reasons this quote seems...

Concrete quote seems a bit high

Starting to try to get things in motion for the 36x72 garage I want to build and got my first quote back. It seems rather high for what they are doing so wanted to run it by you guys and get some opinions... They want to do a single pour of the entire thing, 4 inch thick with 12x12 inch beams...

    Tucker Cars

That may well be, but I always heard that the existing cars were built by hand in a huge rush to keep the Feds off their backs for selling cars that didn't exist. That would explain the quality issues I would think. The plan was always to do "proper" manufacturing once enough funding was...

    camo OSB at Lowes

:lol_hitti No idea what the intended purpose is... hunting blinds maybe? Yea I figured it probably wouldn't be a good idea... The reason I even thought of it was because of a previous thread here where there was discussion of using OSB or plywood on walls instead of sheetrock... camo is...

    camo OSB at Lowes

Saw this stuff at the local Lowe's the other day.... My first thought was that may be cool for the interior walls of a garage... A bit more pricey than sheetrock at $14 a sheet, but has a coolness factor and eliminates the need to paint it. Also stronger than sheetrock making hanging...

    Craftsman 52" 23 drawer top/bottom combo 50% off

My understanding is "online only" means you can only make the purchase online... i.e., don't expect to walk into the store and go to the tool department and pay the same price. But if you buy it online for store pickup and they accept your money, they are pretty much obligated to give it to...

Tricks on leveling / preparing garage floor for concrete ?

That's nothing... like you say, probably never notice that. Proper pad preparation is important though. I wish the folks that poured the pad I am working with at the moment had taken a tad more care in their project. Take a look at these two pictures and see if you can spot the trouble:

    Garage door Rough opening

I am at the same spot with my 17x20 garage re-do also laying block this weekend. I am going with a 9x7 door and my research shows that the rough opening should match the size of the door. What that means is if I use 2x6 framing for the jamb, the distance between my blocks should be 9'3" so...

    Garage mayhem

While I finalize the plans for my new 36x72 garage/shop, I needed to tackle the smaller 17x22 unit next to the house. It has some rather odd design and construction decisions, poor condition, and was actually leaning against the tree on the left side. The concrete is in good condition so...

Auto Parts stores, who and why

Like others have said, most of them have the same stuff but you need to be careful shopping solely by price at these guys. The "cheap" item in the parts lookup tends to be a poor quality chinese unit and doesn't last long, assuming it even fits properly. Case in point. Autozone had front...

Harbor Freight 13 drawer tool boxes $271.99

Went to the other Harbor Freight in town and got one this afternoon. They price matched to $339 and then manually did the 20% discount since the coupon won't scan on a price match. $294 out the door with tax. Success and no hassles or complaining from HF staff... Very smooth transaction.

Harbor Freight 13 drawer tool boxes $271.99

Went to my Harbor Freight today and they matched the $339 internet price on the bottom box with no hassle but wouldn't/couldn't apply the 20% coupon. They said the system won't allow it if they price match. Anyone have success using the coupon at the $339 price on the current promo?

    ideas/advice needed for new 36x68 shop/garage

Could also use wheel dollys to spin the car 90 degrees once it is inside. Majority of folks seem to favor the large door though so I will try to add one to my mock-ups and see how it plays. Yes I agree 100% here... you can never have too much storage space. Everything has it's place, and...

    ideas/advice needed for new 36x68 shop/garage

I hear you on the hip roof... that was not intentional, that is just what I got stuck with due to my lack of experience with the design program. ugh! My intention is for regular gable roof as in the google sketchup image. In the future I would like to acquire the basic machine tools, lathe...

    ideas/advice needed for new 36x68 shop/garage

This idea sounds interesting. Vaulted ceilings in the shop area also means I could go full height with my truck on the lift and still keep the overall height of the building reasonable. I was figuring on 12' ceilings if they were all flat. I presume the height could be lowered with a...
