    Not Impressed by Tekton

I bought this set a few days before the 90t sets were announced. So the only issue I can find is that the geometry of the selector is different between the 1/4 and 3/8 and that the optimal point for the selector to be in for pawl engagement on the 3/8 isn't at the end of the throw for the...

    Not Impressed by Tekton

I used to have a bunch of German tools but I got tired of having a $100 set of not so good wrenches that skips half the sizes between 8 and 22 so I sold them and bought a set of tekton for half as much. The straight through sizing is definitely something tekton does right.

    Not Impressed by Tekton

TLDR version: One of the main reasons I bought tekton was for the legendary support and now that I'm using the support they say I won't end up with a better-functioning ratchet. Long version: To quote the warranty guy I've been dealing with "If you have a damaged tool, it would be replaced."...

    Not Impressed by Tekton

Recently I've spent a completely unjustifiable amount of time trying to get this brand new 72 tooth ratchet that came with my set to work right. The issue is that the selector is incredibly loose and in any real application it goes into neutral after a few turns. This is not a problem in my 1/4"...

What's the deal with socket adapters?

The OD of sockets of the same size goes up with drive size so sometimes you need to go smaller drive and adapt to get lateral clearance.

Is Harbor Freight getting too big for its britches?

I personally like the direction HF is going. I recently bought some Doyle pliers and they're equal or better than my channellocks at half the price. I used to be a snob about it but these days I'd rather get good tools from wherever is cheapest and focus on doing work that can't really be done...

Made in USA vs Made in Germany

German tools on the German market are often less expensive in nominal terms than American tools on the American market. I bought a lot of Hazet as a lower cost alternative to Proto and Williams.

Made in USA vs Made in Germany

These days I place no extra trust in country of origin alone. Trust to me meaning won't hurt me, damage my workpiece, lead to an expensive error, fail on me when I need it to work, etc. A lot of the less expensive American tools are just churned out to meet government 'buy American' contracts...

What is the benefit of expensive tool chests?

Pawn shops want it delivered and the prices they're talking are in the neighborhood of a day with a uhaul. I'm not desperate and I have a game plan to deal with it. Just sharing my experiences.

What is the benefit of expensive tool chests?

Let's see here, a month of rent that I have no other use for would be $1679 plus staying on utilities, a uhaul and a storage unit would be more than the price I'm currently getting no interest on, it can't come to my new apartment and I've lost interest in the types of activities that require a...

What is the benefit of expensive tool chests?

Not a single email. Not even the usual "will you take 10% of your asking price?" I have to be out on the 31st or pay an extra month of rent. Cheaper to just junk the proto box.

What is the benefit of expensive tool chests?

You always hear that if you pay more for a tool/box you'll at least get a lot back when you sell it. Well next week I'm cutting a year-old $1300 proto box up for scrap because I haven't even gotten a single email on craigslist and I need it gone.
