    Gable Vent

So just to close out this...the install was a success. For over a month, when I'd go out in the morning the temp inside the garage was still in the low to mid 80's and by night time it was pretty much in the high 80's. When it was just over 100 the inside temp read 99. Finished up the install...

    Gable Vent

I got my gable vent delivered this week and am hopefully going to get it installed this weekend. For anyone interested, I found a great video on installing metal trim on a steel building. Here is the link with instructions and video. Looks pretty detailed. Hope it goes well...

How do they fasten to the ground? Pole Barn vs. Steel building

    Safety of Jack Stands

Sorry...but not acceptable for lawn mower use...clearly states that on the label! :D

    Gable Vent

Good idea. I do have a bunch of extra steel from when the building was built as well as some extra door/window trim. For the trim (and the rest of the fan), is it screwed into the wall siding or just your supports? I saw a video online where someone just put the trim into the opening, then...

    Gable Vent

OK...so it's been hot and pretty much can't really do much in the shop. Steel building, fully insulated and no ventilation or A/C yet. I figure an inexpensive start would be to put in a gable vent at one end up high and then an intake vent low on the other side. Run it at night to keep the...

    Span Question for Overhead Storage

Mine spans across the entire depth of the garage so like 18'. It's holding up great, it's just a place to put all the junk that I never see and my kids will have to deal with some day. But you can actually walk up there no issue. I think my application is different than what your talking about...

    Span Question for Overhead Storage

For my main house garage, I double upped the 2X4 and used liquid nails and screws. It's pretty solid.

Favorite Steel Building Company for Shop in CA?

McNeilly did the erection of the structure as well. He knows what he's doing and was quick to get it up, just him and another guy. I'll respond to you with my concrete guys info.

Favorite Steel Building Company for Shop in CA?

Couple of years ago I did my 40X60X20 in Placentia, CA. I used McNeilly Steel and they quoted me a building by Metallic. I went to high school with one of the owners and her husband Dave McNeilly did the install and was great. Prices were far better than any other quotes I got. Also for...

    Ice Machine in your Garage??

I have one of these units and it was explained to me a bit further that the ice is clear because the minerals in the water don't freeze. As that little thin layer of ice forms it is more pure/less minerals in it. Then after the cycle of freeze/cutting, the pumped water is very mineral rich so it...

    240v to 208v question

I hear ya but I currently have a negative electric bill. :) This big kiln will only be used for larger projects as I have a smaller for normal use which I have run many times already. Getting A/C in my shop is next on the big electrical usage thing. That will bring my bill above zero for sure.

    240v to 208v question

Successful full cycle firing of the kiln. This picture was at about 900 degrees, the full fuse went up to 1480 and it was too hot to open lid and take a picture. There was a slight issue at first when it would fire it would give me and E-6 error on the controller. Looked up the code and it was...

Planning for the future... Shop then House build... Advise and Knowledge needed!

When I did my build there were a few things that came up that I didn't know I had to do... Get a survey done of my property showing placement of building, setback requirements, utility easements. A few grand. Get a soils report (sounds similar to the soil log). Basically they took core samples...

Trying to stay in budget, what can I cut?

I'd cut the bathroom stuff but your probably already have most of the plumbing done. When I build my shop I did total bare bones for the build...concrete foundation, building (walls and roof) and garage doors. No inside finished walls, no electrical, no lights, no polished floor...just a big...

    240v to 208v question

Houston...the Eagle has landed! Success! I wired up the kiln to the transformer and plugged it into my existing 40 amp circuit to test and the kiln control panel powered on. I then just did a quick cycle to make sure the heating elements were turning on and they did! I didn't want to run it...

Just so I'm clear on these instructions, I'm moving the two dots red to the top one that was previously marked black and then the two dot black to the bottom one that was previously marked red. Again...just making sure.
