Went to an auction this weekend

And you can pick up an older Delta Unisaw for $250 or so if you are lucky. Although those things can cut your finger off they are remarkable saws and I think that in their day they were the ones to have.

Went to an auction this weekend

There are still a lot of the old and heavy Craftsman, Delta etc table mounted stuff out there and in use. It reappears in public only when no one in the family wants to take over or has the room for dad’s stuff when he kicks the bucket. And batteries Have made old silver metal plug in power...

    Gerstner Chest Refurb

I wonder how much competition /jealousy/argument there was between machinists who bought a high end Gerstner box off the Gerstner truck and paid for it at 25 cents a week and the frugal guy who stored his tools in leftover tobacco tins? Gerstner did make some boxes that would put Snappy to...

    Gerstner Chest Refurb

Very nice. One of the relics of the age when working with your hands did not involve keyboards.

3 phase 460v 300 amp inverter welder, what are my options to power it on residential?

Damn. Pictures? What’s he cut? Full size redwoods? I bet he’s the sort of guy who would spring for the extra $1.09 and put 20 amp outlets on his 12 gu wire.

How do you store your electric extension cords?

Cheap, easy and good enough for who it is for. https://www.menards.com/main/electrical/electrical-cords-surge-protectors/extension-cords/performax-trade-cord-storage-wrap-3-pack/bv3pcsw/p-1642874335900209-c-6410.htm Instead of one long cord I prefer three or four shorter ones that can be...

Quantity of outlets for 20x20 shop

My view is that with that small amount of outlets I would go with 12 amp outlets as there would not be much cost difference. And before I determined the number I would try to lay out my shop. Outlets hidden behind large objects that you put in front of them are not really usable. And...

    New construction toilet install

I like the “slip fit inside the pipe and drop in“ flanges and stainless steel screws. Make sure the screw heads are big enough or else also get stainless steel washers that are the right size. And I get the thicker brass bolts with two extra brass nuts that hold down the toilet. After...

What brand weed killer are yall using for broadleaf weeds?

Some products branded as Roundup no longer have glyphosate in them. https://www.menards.com/main/outdoors/gardening/lawn-plant-care/weed-killers/roundup-reg-weed-grass-killer-concentrate-64-oz/5376506/p-1642874300741281-c-1463608034797.htm The new stuff did not work very well for me.

New house came with LED “can” lights in garage

I have old fashioned can lites in my shop. I like them for general background lighting but need and have task lites above the workbenches. Perhaps you could tap into your ceiling lites and hang switch operated lites above where you will be working and/or need more lite.

Thinking about retiring my USA Craftsman tools

Your executor will be happier if you do not buy more tools.

How to remove broken faceplate screw from outlet?

That would be a serious mistake. Much better to put the JB Weld in the screw hole, let it dry, then drill an appropriate size hole in the cured JB weld. A penney saved is a penny earned.

How to remove broken faceplate screw from outlet?

Perhaps true. But sometimes you just have to take the time to fix things that never should have broken. You have to show your stuff who the boss is. Otherwise the revolution will spread. I would drill out the screw and then get one of those clip on nuts and a longer screw for the cover plate...

Your Best Tool Purchase in 2025?

I replaced the Mastercraft screwdrivers in my everyday tool bag with Kleins. I did keep an old flat screwdriver for opening paint cans, prying heavy stuff, etc

Ever get stuck with tools you thought you’d need but don’t really need and not worth reselling and maybe you’ll need them someday

“. . . maybe you’ll need them some day . . .” There’s a very narrow (if any) line between that logic and being a hoarder.

    WAGO Retainers

There are folks who like to wear belts and suspenders at the same time. For example I never run tape over and around outlet screws but some do.

I think one of my tool truck drivers has had it with non payers

I am no mechanic. And it is to everyone’s advantage that I stay this way. But if I was starting out and certain that I was going to be a mechanic taking advantage of Snappy’s student discount program may make sense. I know it’s like giving a potential addict a good price on meth. But it seems...

    TTC: Allen Hex Key Shootout
