What is this vice used for?

I just acquired this vice, and nobody has any idea what it was designed for. I wondered if it was for repairing sickles on an old field mower. Does anyone have the truth of what this was designed for?

    Welder cord

Hi all. I have come across about 50 ft of 12/4 wire, and was thinking about making an extension cord for my welding cart. My cart consists of a 110v wire feed welder, a 60A plasma cutter, and a 200A TIG welder. I'm questioning if the 12/4 cord will be heavy enough. I sure don't need to start a...

    Any Danger of Backfeeding??

I am wondering, if i hook all 3 (110 welder, 220 plasma cutter, and 220 big welder) into one single ground lead coming from my cart, is there a risk of back feeding current through a machine I'm not using at the time??

    An electrical question.

Hey fellas. I'm in the process of building myself a welding cart. I will have 3 machines on it, including a 110V mig welder, a 220V plasma cutter, and a 220V tig welder. I will only be using the equipment in my shop, so once they hit the cart, it will probably be permanent. My question is...

    Wire Gauge I should use?

Well, I took the plunge, and bought a Hypertherm Plasma Cutter. I am now in the process of planning my wiring. I will be running about 30 feet from my service panel, an would like to install two 50 amp outlets, for my welder and cutter. Most likely won't be using them both at the same time...

Portable Generators…..weather is calling for ICE here!!

How many of you fellas have a portable generator, what brand, and how big? The National Weather Service is calling for ice and snow here, Iowa, until 3 pm tomorrow. We've been lucky for a few years, and have not gone without power for much more than a few hours. I'm thinking our luck may run out...

    Lighting Inquiry

I'm seeking some input on possible lighting solutions in my garage. I'm wanting to light up an area, lets say 15 ft square, where I do most of my small work. My eyes aren't as good as they were years ago, and shadows are a real problem for me, when doing "intricate" stuff. I live in Iowa, so...

    A bending table?

I make small lawn and garden ornaments, in my 'spare' time, mostly using 1/4 to 3/8' rebar, and light steel, with a mix of odd pieces I find along the way. I am thinking of setting up at some local craft shows, and maybe a Pinterest site. I'd like to build some kind of 'bending table'. Thus far...

    Wire feed welders.

I'm still watching CL and some other sites for a great deal on a plasma cutter, and I'm also looking for a good wire welder. I have a small Lincoln, 110v wire feed, (gas optional) but thinking a nice 220v mig would be a nice addition to my 'crafting' work. I'll, most likely, never work with...

    Thinking about a Plasma Cutter.

I'm thinking about buying a Plasma Cutter. I build abstract lawn ornaments, and I'm getting closer to retirement, thinking of a side income afterwards. I probably wouldn't use it enough to justify a large investment, and have been looking at the "Chinese" cutters on Ebay and in the "big-box"...

    Mr. Heater Problem

I just, yesterday, finished installing my new Mr Heater MHU50NG. Spent a lot of time doing the job right the first time, and making sure everything was done to plan. I got everything ready, hit the switches, and not a happy moment. Here is the sequence….. opened the gas valve, turned on the...
