Craftsman Hand Tool Manufacturers & Date Ranges

Another question: I picked up a socket today that has a date code of "EE". From the list in the OP, it says but my socket says "Made in USA" stamped on it. Was the National Hand Tools stuff made in USA and the later Stanley Works stuff made in Taiwan?

Craftsman Hand Tool Manufacturers & Date Ranges

Does anyone know when Craftsman switched from the model number 43178 to 43187 for their 1/4" RHFT ratchet? Also, is there an online PDF archive of old Craftsman catalog anywhere? I swear I've searched for the answers to both questions but have come up empty so far!

    How many makers?

Looks like IR used to own Proto from 1962-1980 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto_%28tools%29 Alloy artifacts dates the finalized acquisition at 1964 http://home.comcast.net/~alloy-artifacts/proto-empire.html So that would date your new hex bits to that time frame!

Purpose of this ground down extension?

Appreciate the input so far! If he was trying to make a wobble, it didn't work out because I have tried putting sockets on there and they don't wobble. Maybe they wiggle a little more than normal, but you have to grind down at an angle if you want them to wobble!

Purpose of this ground down extension?

Found this 2" long 3/8" drive Snap On extension at an estate sale the other day. Was wondering if anyone knows why the previous owner ground it down to be more circular like this? Does it have a special purpose this way, as far as you know? The guy had a mix of high end stuff and cheap Chinese...

What's with the "new" Snap On boxes on Craigslist?

Well in this thread, there are reports that someone rebadges Harbor Freight chests as Snap On and sells them on CL http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=218282 :dunno:
