    2019 Garage Sale Thread

Got out to an estate sale today and struck out on tools. But I met a nice fellow, planning to retire South soon and surrounding himself and his wife with some great vintage stuff. A few minutes before I got there, 'Billy the Kidd' snagged this Delta grinder with stand, guards, and quench cups...

WANTED: Who has seen these double-end adjustables?

Interesting. I am fairly certain now that Don's Baxter example was made in Derby Connecticut. Your example of a 'Derby Poland' marking (although definitely not the same company) is interesting, and makes me even more curious about Farmer J's socket end wrenches. As long as nobody objects...

WANTED: Who has seen these double-end adjustables?

looked around a little and I think Don's wrench was made by Hawkins Hardware MFG of Derby CT. Now, to check on your sockets... Hawkins Hardware Mfg. Co. of Derby, Conn. was one of several manufactures of the Baxter patented wrenches. similar...

WANTED: Who has seen these double-end adjustables?

Lugz, the Baxters as shown by Ragtop show up pretty frequently at low prices. Unfortunately, that design was very prone to rusting shut. I often seem them at $5 and below but completely rusted shut. And several have resisted all of my attempts to unstick them. The design in the patent you...

OK .. so about the Starrett plumb bob in my Billings box picture... I mentioned the other day that my dad had some tools from my great grandfather that I think were from the Ford River Rouge plant. I talked to some folks at the Henry Ford museum and that's what they think. There never was a...

I saw this on a vintage items identification thread and nobody has been able to identify it yet. Apparently it says Lincoln on one site and Detroit on the other. I thought this group might have some ideas... FYI - I finally got out this year and bought a handful of stuff. I am in the midst...

    2019 Garage Sale Thread

More than we can imagine... I have heard stories of wooden machinists boxes being dumped some they could sell the box. I have seen buildings sold with the contents and emptied once they were bought. As a kid, we had an old (wooden) toolbox where many of the tools were etched with the Ford...

I have seen a Starrett item that was attributed to the early Ford Rouge River plant and it was hand etched with the stylized Ford logo and 'RR' (confirmed not be be 'rail road') However, I could definitely see that with an item like a screwdriver they would do a bulk order with their logo.
