    Drill press vises?

Sorry if you mentioned it earlier, but what vice is this? I really like that. I have a 20" Dayton press with a t-slot table. The vice I bought from my local (independent) tool supply store turned out to be worse quality than you would get at tractor supply if you can believe that.

    Help With Replacement Gears

Are you replacing them because they are worn, or just because of the one broken tooth? If you can find the broken one, you might be able to have it brazed back on. Take them to a machine shop. They should be able to tell you if they can braze it on. Or, worst case, they should be able to pretty...

    Torque Wrenches

I really like the Husky brand click-type torque wrenches at home depot. They are all metal and have proven to take abuse. I've had about eight other torque wrenches from Harbor Freight, Tekton, PT and so on over the years. All of which landed in the trash bin in the garage after minor use --...

You know that trick to get a nut/bolt started without crossing the threads ...

I am 57 y/o and lived through that type of schooling. I am an Asperger's. Dyslexic too. When I was in grade school I was deemed retarded and treated as such. Got into a lot of school yard fights. Yet somehow, despite my abhorrence of the education system, I ended up with a 35+ year career as...

You know that trick to get a nut/bolt started without crossing the threads ...

So, we all probably know the trick to start a nut or bolt without crossing the threads. I.e. turn it counter clockwise until it kind of clicks and you can feel it. The other day I was thinking about this as I used the trick on one of those 16.9 OZ/500 mL bottles that I cannot seem to get to...

    Whats your favorite screwdriver handle?

Don't really have a pref on shape. Though I do grab my square handled ones more often. I particularly like the "bolstered" set from Pittsburg that have the bolt head for extra torque: https://www.harborfreight.com/8-piece-bolstered-screwdriver-set-94899.html

Harbor Freight’s ICON Pliers and Ratchets

Let us know how you like the Icon torque wrenches. I've thrown out 3 of the older Harbor Freight ($20) torque wrenches after owning them for probably 2 week or less (separate times). Ended up replacing the half inch with a Craftsman that the head exploded on after torquing the third nut. Got it...

    Hudson wildfire near Bastrop

I just went through the Bear Fire here in Northern California. It was about 300 to 500 yards from my house before the winds shifted and blew it back into the Tahoe National Forest. But what I was told by more than one source is that once the fire gets to the tree tops it can jump from tree to...

alright I give up on fabrication :(

I'd go for floating flanges for bolting to the block. I.e. don't weld them onto the header. On my bike, and I believe on my Mini the headers had this arrangement. The machine shop should be able to roll (not sure what its called) a lip on the first segment to retain the flange. You can slip the...

    Drill Press Table Repair

How about just melting some lead/non-lead solder into them with a map gas torch? No real welding experience required on that. Just be sure to clean the heck out of the holes and use lots of flux. Then you can grind them smooth with a file laid flat on the table (draw file technique). Might take...

Any way to repair a bench vise nut that is integrated with the end cap?

That's interesting. I didn't know about SB wire. Once you get the settings dialed in it must be pretty easy to apply. I've always had a hard time getting tig brazing to work well and not look like poo. I usually get it right on the last weld. LOL.

Any way to repair a bench vise nut that is integrated with the end cap?

I would imagine that you could clamp the nut onto the outer ring, v-notch those cracks on the outside then braze (or tig braze) with silicon bonze. Then v-notch the inside to just where you find the outsize braze material and braze those notches up. Then re-tap the acme threads. Problem with...
