Yes I am aware of that. The stump is about 5 foot away from the slab, so hopefully we won't have any serious problems. I'm sure there are still some pretty large roots underneath but I made the footer extra deep to hopefully compensate. Only time will tell.

Yep I have kept that in mind from the start of the hinge build. I'm going to try it without it first. If I feel it's necessary I can always add it later.

Now that i have capped the upper tube the hinge is now 100% Next up is making this thing height adjustable. I really hope i use this thing enough to make the time involved with building it worthwile. and an uncluttered profile shot

well I got the hinge 95% finished up. It just needs a little piece bent up to cap the upper tube. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

Got a little more welding done. Im not sure what material i got ahold of at work, but it was NOT happy with 70s -2 filler. I know I should use 309ss but all i had was 308. I hope it holds up, this is a pretty stressed piece.

Thanks I hope so. Ya I'm thinking of running dry graphite as a lubricant. I'm not sure what would happen with the graphite if I accidentally ground through it while welding though.
