Have you ever "invested" in your employer?

I do a lot of consulting, I try and never bring in anything I'm not prepared to leave behind... That said, if I do bring stuff in, its recorded as mine.

    Maglite

Keep it as is and spend the money on a real LED light. While I have a few Maglights, I would not bother "upgrading" them. I was a big flashlight dealer for a long time. I could not give maglights away.

Solidworks-Who used it for garage design

I'm very proficient in SW. Started to model my basement, garage and even back yard... Lets just say I'm not even close to being finished as its a bit of a pain. It's not meant for it. But absolutely it can be done. Maybe I'm just lazy?

Tools for a Mechanical Engineering Student?

I have the Machinery Handbook (26th edition). It's at home on a shelf covered with dust. I've opened it once in 5+ years. And only because I had a chart inside I made that I wanted to look at. Most everything you need IS on line these days. It was my go to for a long time when I got my start...

This and make is a high quality one. As an engineer, it's the one thing I always use at work. Having the ability to do both Metric and English is a life saver

    Tool box question

My understanding is people painted their (houses) front door red (as red paint is/was is expensive) to show affluence. Dont know how this applies to boxes, as having any color snap on box shows you have money (or debt) ;)
