    Kids First Car

For my 15 year old, I recently picked up a well used beat up not running GMC Sonoma. He was thrilled when I pulled into the driveway with his first truck on my trailer. The fact that its beat up on just about every corner, has a rusted replacement fender that was never painted and doesn't run...

    Pole Barn Builders Central Texas

I hired a contractor to build from scratch a 28 x 36 metal building. He did the pad and the structure. I did the electrical. Make sure you get some references and that who ever you get can use a level. Think about having the pad slope slightly toward center of the building and out the garage door.

Anyone use steel or poly strapping for shipping?

I've used the Cresent Wrench method for years. I hate the steel bands. I was cut once, should have had a few stitches. Another time, a guy leaving a lumber yard had some hanging off his trailer, cut himself bad. I ended up driving him and his truck/ trailer to the hospital. But if you need the...

Best wall organization for picks, shovels, brooms, etc?

On the cheap, get some 3/4 or 1 inch dowl rods and a 2x4. Drill holes in the 2x4 at an angle spaced about 6 inches apart and glue the dowl rods cut to about 10 inches in the holes. Space the next pair about 20 inches from the first pair.

    Concrete over Concrete

Thanks for the responses. When we moved last fall I gave up a ton of floor space in my garage. Now I am trying to figure out if I can gain some back. I don't have to worry about winter or the locals as we're out of the city limits. My only worries are expanding the hip roof and recovering the...

    Concrete over Concrete

I am considering adding a bay to my garage. I have an existing heavily reinforced agregate concrete parking pad where I would like to add the bay. I want a smooth floor and would like to increase the height of the existing pad to prevent water run off from entering the new bay. Is it acceptable...

    metal building recomendations

A 2/12 pitch really should be enough. You might want to get a couple 2x4s nailed together and stand them up where the building will be to get a visualization of how tall the building will be. I ended up dropping side wall height once I saw how tall my building was going to be. Plan your wire...

    Backyard Garage

Added concrete yesterday. We should have steel sometime Friday. Still trying to decide how to insulate the building. I ran the power and a waterline from the house. The vapor barrier was installed by the building crew, it looks like heavy poly available at any hardware store. More to follow...

    Backyard Garage

This is a great forum with a ton of helpful information for those of us with the garage junkie disease. Here's a shot of my foundation waiting for concrete. 28x36 with a 10x25 lean-to being added to the back for yard tools and green house for the wife.
