    Saylor-Beall compressor question

I just got home from work. Never heard back from the guy selling the compressor. I’m gonna pop the head of the compressor and see if it is just the valves. I’ll update when I finish it.

    Saylor-Beall compressor question

Hey guys. I’m having issues with my HF 29 gallon compressor. It’s not building pressure past 30psi. I just looked on marketplace and saw this compressor for sale. It’s a 703 compressor. Price seems fair at $375. What do experts think about it? Worth it to get and junk the HF or try to repair the...

    Kalamazoo horizontal bandsaw

I never thought about the tabletop ones. More things to look at. I’m still getting good at my tig welding before I do the real exhaust build so I have the luxury of time to look for a good used one before I drop the coin on a new one. Thanks for the advice. It’s appreciated.

    Kalamazoo horizontal bandsaw

@GeoBruin thats some good advice. I already don’t have too much extra space with the tools I’ve gathered since joining GJ. I’ll keep watching marketplace while considering a small jet or grizzly band saw as you recommended.

    Kalamazoo horizontal bandsaw

I’m really just making custom exhausts out of my garage. I have a 12” dry cut saw with an evolution stainless steel blade that didn’t do a good job cutting tube for me to practice on. That’s what prompted me to look into a horizontal one. I like good made in America tools but don’t wanna have a...

    Kalamazoo horizontal bandsaw

Looking at this Kalamazoo band saw and wanna know if it’s worth it. I hear they are very good saws. Here are pics and what the guy selling it says it needs. I don’t mind fixing up something good but don’t wanna have to bring it back from the brink since I’ve never repaired a metal cutting...

    Craftsman Belt/disc sander

Sounds like the 113 is the best for what I’ll be doing. It’s wood working, some metal working, and some exhaust fab work.

    Craftsman Belt/disc sander

I don’t have room unfortunately. Because of this great site I’ve already amassed mad vises, drill presses, c-clamps, and a couple bandsaws. I love this site but it causes an addiction that is space limited by my garage. what are the strengths and weaknesses of each?

    Craftsman Belt/disc sander

I have a chance to get the 572.247600 belt/disc sander or the 113 series with the 4” belt and 6” disc. Is one better than the other or it really doesn’t matter?

    Baldor or Block grinder

I would love to keep both but space comes into play. I’m gonna go ahead and keep the Baldor since it’s the Cadillac of grinders. Seber…that’s some good info. I hadn’t even considered using 6” wheels on the Baldor. They would do in a pinch which is one of the things I was worried about. Thanks

    Baldor or Block grinder

I don’t know yet since I’m just getting my workshop up and running. I’m just a part time diyer so I doubt I’ll be going through many. It also came with a few wheels and a wire wheel but they’re used. I’ll take your advice and keep the Baldor

    Baldor or Block grinder

I fully restored a block grinder to use. Friday I saw a great deal on a Baldor grinder that was too good to turn down. $40 for a 712 from 1978 with a stand. I used it and it’s smooth and runs quieter than the Block grinder. I’m debating which one to make my primary one after restoring the...

    Gifted band saw

Glad I didn’t turn his offer down.

    Gifted band saw

So check this out. Went to buy another craftsman 113 bench grinder to restore since the price was only $50 though it needs mad work and the guy says he’ll throw in a band saw as a 2 for 1 deal. I don’t have a band saw so I say sure. He says it’s in rough shape but worked the last time he used it...

    Reed Vise

I thought it looked like it had been used heavily but I see the abuse you mentioned. Thanks for the further insight. The search for a big vise continues.

    Reed Vise

Hey guys. Just wanted some advice on this Reed vise and if it’s worth the price and effort to restore. The owner says it’s 1950’s vintage, 6” jaws. I can’t see it in person until about the middle of this week. Thanks as always

    Rockwell bench top drill press

Just joined up. Gonna look for the manual in a few.

    Rockwell bench top drill press

Did just that. Ended up getting it for $60. Doesn’t have a key for the chuck but I’m sure that can be easily sourced. It ran smooth and has 5 speeds. I’m gonna have to find out the speeds and place it on a card. I was able to make out the serial number and it dates to 1977. It feels solid and is...

    Rockwell bench top drill press

That looks awesome. I don’t know if I’ll be able to find a serial number on it with the tag so beat up. I was gonna try to date it by seeing another press of theirs that uses a similar on off switch in lieu of the button like yours
