The Ancient and Independent Order of Oddfellows (Adjustables, that is...)

^ looks like they may have been issued a Canadian patent: Pollock / Pollock Automatic Wrench Co., Des Moines, IA (Galesburg, IL) / possibly patent CA-114361 Sep 29 1908 C.V. Pollock (?) / they were apparently also granted a British patent, but oddly, no U.S. patent.

Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

no. it's a tiny conical-shaped spring only maybe 1/4" high fully extended. somebody on here has parts and pieces for those things. it would be the same spring as the current production 5449 Proto, so SBD should have them on hand.

    Milwaukee Power Tools Deal Permathread

Milwaukee 9.6 volt battery-operated drill motor with battery and charger. The Makita battery on the left looked like it might fit. After several hours on chargers, none of these lit up, so they went to the curb yesterday.

Show us your Shears, Scissors, and Secateurs!

@Mintgrun - I don't have anything with a "Sargent" shear, but here's an old catalog page showing the PS&W "bench shears". Believe it or not, your 9-inch cut shears don't appear to be the largest size that was available:

They do look very similar to what I have here, although the photo images are so tiny it's hard to tell. Fibre Case Corp.'s phone number is answered by "Philly Case Co.", and the young lady who answered the phone hasn't been with the company long enough to know any history. Not sure if it was a...

How come common metric sets only go to 19mm but common sae sets run to 1” which would be 25mm?

^ Probably 90% of your "basic 3/8" drive SAE socket sets" will contain 7 sockets - 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, and 3/4 "Extended" sets might push that out to 5/16" - 1", as Sparky's sets in his "real shop". Metric socket sets - from the "beginning" (if we can call it that) included an odd...

Any idea who might have made it? Or is it just generic "Bell System" stuff? I'm finding no markings on it anywhere.

2026 Garage Sale Thread (15th Annual)

I pulled black tape off all kinds of objects in those boxes. There was a small bottle of a clear liquid. Didn't have much smell to it at all. Thin. Not as thick as fingernail polish, but in the same type of bottle with a little brush cap. What would that be doing in a case of telephone tools?

^ I had one of those drop-shipped to my buddy. He called and asked "What am I supposed to with this thing?" Fast forward two weeks. He calls again to say "Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!" Apparently he had to get at some widget that was under some other widget on a...

2026 Garage Sale Thread (15th Annual)

I responded to a CL listing last night, and the seller and I exchanged a few emails and then a phone call and agreed to meet earlier today. He just retired as a telephone/telecommunications repairman, and he had quite an interesting collection of stuff he was looking to unload: I haven't really...

I have learned to stand off to the side of the grinder as much as possible when running the wire wheel. Doesn't seem to matter where I buy wire wheels, they throw little pieces of wire everywhere. Maybe I'm not using them properly. I can tell that one is a real POS - I'll be lucky to get 10-15...

    Vintage S-K Tools

^ Ordinarily, I would have used my usual white lithium grease and MMO, but decided "Hey, let's try their stuff." Amazingly smooth action on this unit now. Not sure if that's the lubricant, or if this is indeed the "high tooth" mechanism (which I suspect it is) or a combination of both, but it is...

I guess maybe I should have posted this here: P & C model 6248 "Flx Spin'r" (with some other items.) This was intended as a "one-handed speeder". Actually works amazingly well for that purpose.

How come common metric sets only go to 19mm but common sae sets run to 1” which would be 25mm?

^ Granco was an aerospace industry contract supplier. 100% government contract for NASA and Air Force. I only paid $40 bucks for that set (including shipping) - and the sockets were all brand new. Real goofy deal. Gave it to my buddy because he was lacking an 18mm socket. Wanted to make sure he...

following up on my post from yesterday: I put the S-K 42470 1/2" drive RHFT ratchet back together last night with the repair kit that S-K shipped to me. I believe this must be the "super fine tooth" version, as this baby is so nice now I may well keep it! They are supplying the ratchet repair...
