    Chemical Paint Removal?

A powder coating outfit generally won't "chemically" remove the paint. They will likely media blast (sand blast) the parts. Immediately prior to coating, they usually give the parts a final wipe down with a mild chemical or detergent to remove the excess media and any oil leftover so that the...

Judging by the picture I'll take Jeremy's side on this one, but thank you.

Anybody know of a 'high-end' alternative to this POS?

Many thanks to all of you!!! This is not at all what I 'had in mind', but seems to meet my needs as far as I can tell (Hopefully my clamps are deep enough). I will get one (~$25) and see how she works. Thanks again! That requires hard maple. Money, maple, and space come very dear to me and my...

Anybody know of a 'high-end' alternative to this POS?

Basically, I am looking for the same thing as the Wolfcraft (Advertised as "German designed" (Chinese made)), but without all the slop, plastic, and enormous tolerances. Thank you for sharing that specimen! I will definitely keep an eye out for one of those. Thank you, but holy ****...

Anybody know of a 'high-end' alternative to this POS?

Hi guys and girls, I have had the Wolfcraft Drill Guide for ~1 year now and am less than thrilled about the results I have gotten from it. http://www.wolfcraft.com/en/products/p/drill_guides/1_tecmobil_mobile_drill_stand/s/p/index.html I have not been able to find a 'high-end' alternative...

handy tools to have pics, pry bars...

These are really handy. Cheap too. They make identifying a fastener accurately a snap. I don't know if you have a tap and die set, but when you need one, it's a great thing to have around.

    Heat gun rec?

If you can help it, go with something like this: This style of heat gun offers great air flow, low and high temp settings, and offers the user the option to turn off the heating element while keeping the blower on, which allows the internals to cool more quickly and reduces unnecessary wear...

    USA Made Socket Organization Solutions

I have shopped around and tried many offerings (Hansen (my preferred for 'through' sockets), Mechanic's Time Savers (great concept, a bit cumbersome), Craftsman (good, not great), and Kobalt (Not US made, I know)), and IMHO the Hansen trays are the clear winner for 'through' sockets...

need advice on what tool to use>>>

Do you like the deck painted? If not, you could just pressure wash the entire deck. That would remove the paint, clear the gaps, and make the stainless fasteners accessible for the future.

    Beginner home mechanic questions

My .02: If you are buying tools with the exclusive intent to simply complete your current job, then I suppose HF or Kobalt tools will suffice. If you are buying tools with the intent of completing future jobs, i.e. you are starting your tool collection and making the decision to become more...

Snap on krcs46 mod thread .

Hi Guys and Gals, I recently became another owner of a Snap On KRSC46 cart, and quickly thereafter I discovered THIS gem of a thread. The mods I have seen on this thread are nothing short of what I expected from GarageJournal. I had no idea that 2" drawers could be fitted to this cart, nor did...

lug nut and stud thread cleaner.

If you're not trying to actually repair the threads, you could use a battery post brush on the studs to clear them of rust, debris, and/or antiseize.

    Non-US Members' Toolboxes Thread

Revision: Hello GJers, As an admirer of all tools and tool boxes, I often peer into an open garage in my neighborhood as I drive by, glance into the bays of a professional shop (independent or dealer) when the opportunity presents itself, or find myself checking in on the "Let's see your...
