2 idiots using my tools this week [rant]

I will hardly lone out any tool anymore. I have a 5 foot pry bar that I used to let a guy borrow to bust open lawnmower crates. Well after finding it laying on the ground outside of the shop after closing time I decided to put a end to it. I stashed it away so no one could find it then asked...

    What's up w/ Cornwell's chrome plating???

I don't personally own any Cornwell tools but a guy at a shop I used to work at did. All his sockets were Cornwell and the chrome was good on all of them. I did notice they had kind of a blue hint to the chrome which I thought was strange. I think all tool companys will have the occasional...

    digital multimeter...........

All a meter does when it measures resistance is send current through the wire and measure the voltage drop. So it is putting a load on it, although small.

    digital multimeter...........

I'm pretty sure the resistance changes when there is only one small strand. I'm just saying that hand held meters are not accurate enough to pick up the change. It would be like taking a two inch hose and putting a 1/4 coupler in the center of it, it's going to cause resistance.

    digital multimeter...........

I use a $30 Harbor Freight model. It is not any less accurate than any Fluke I have ever tried. What I usually do is take a 2 foot piece of 14 gauge wire and ohm it with both meters. Always get the same readings. Then I will cut the strands of wire in the center till there is just one tiny...

    Homemade Mufflers???

I wouldn't recommend using steel wool to pack a muffler and definitely not on something that is going off road. One spark can start it on fire and burn all of it out of your muffler. Also once it starts there will probably be sparks or little burning bits of steel wool coming out of your...

    3/4" Drive opinion

I started my set by buying the cheapest set I could find at Harbor Freight. I then replaced the few that I broke with a quality tool. Still have over half the set including ratchet and t-handle.

What Annoys You The Most When In The Shop?

I haven’t posted or looked at these forums since I left almost 4 years ago but this happened to me today and is really annoying . When someone replaces bolts that was missing or they lost with a totally different bolt. Today I grabbed two 9/16 wrenches and crawled under a vehicle. I take one...

Buying drill bit sets by brand

Yeah thats them. They seem to be holding up good for the guys that bought some. One guy drilled through a head bolt stud today with one. No oil and he said you can't tell the bit was ever used. I might try some out next time I need to replace a drill bit.

Buying drill bit sets by brand

A few people at work have been getting Cronatron drill bits. Some guy came there one day gave us a demo of the bits. He asked for a bolt so we found a grade eight 3/4 in bolt. He drilled through it without the bit walking and he didn't center punch it. After he was done he started running the...

    Riding Lawnmower Update

They are the same mower. I don't know where that rumor started but people ask me that all the time. Also I don't know about other places but your not going to the back of the line for service just because you didn't buy the mower from us. I bet 70% of the L series that come in the shop were...

    Riding lawnmowers

Your saying you have a 25 year old Toro that has the orginal battery and that battery would start the mower if the starter had not "lost a shim or bolt or something". Just what kind of battery is that?

    Rear release connectors

That might be them. I wish I could get a closer look at them. Where can I find these at?

    Rear release connectors

Does anybody know where to find a tool to release rear release connectors? The only one I have ever found were plastic and didn't last but a few times before they were shot. I could have swore I saw a metal one with screwdriver handle in a tool catalog one time but I can't find it anywhere.

    Riding lawnmowers

I wouldn't jump to conclusions from just one engine. I really don't think any of the small engines are much better than another. Actually I've seen more Briggs that were screwed up from the factory than any other but I still think they have a good product.

    Riding lawnmowers

The John Deere X304 is 4wheel steer. They come with a 42inch deck. I haven't looked at them real close yet but a 38X deck ought to fit on it. Unless the 4 wheel steer conflicts with the 38X.

    OT: lawnmowers

The John Deere push mowers have a 2 year warranty. That is better than anything they sell around here. The big wheels make them easier to push. I don't know about other brands but John Deere self propelled holds up real well. It's not uncommon to see a 5 year old mower with the original belt on it.
