CrimsnTide - Most of those old 8ft fixtures can be converted to use four 4ft bulbs with a retrofit kit (link). Then add bulbs from post 1 or those from Prolighting (link) are good too (link). If you find a 3-lamp strip light or wait for them to be back in stock, you'll need 12 of them 3x4...

Frosted = Even light distribution. Slightly reduced lumen output over clear, but well worth it.

Clear under 12ft mounting height tends to be annoying.

Pitched ceilings require more trial and error testing per situation. There's no simple rule that I can apply. Space needs to be modeled in Dialux to be sure.

Rocksteady - Use the Visual Tool (link). Insert 50 fc in the illuminance box. You only need 6 fixtures.

Rocksteady - The layout is tailored for cars. Not much point to framing cars with fixtures when there won't be any cars in there. You also don't need the 80fc that this layout provides (depending on the type of projects).

Hyperikon has decent products, though going with frosted lens will provide more even light distribution and less sharp point light source pain when you look at them.

02chuck - I thought the Envirolite IES was on their site, but that link doesn't work. I have it from a previous project here (link). I renamed it to a txt file. Just "save page as" and rename back to IES. Edit: To answer your question - Yes this fixture will work for your space. Qty.25 5x5 pattern

Typical cost estimate for surface mounted light fixtures in a garage = $1/sq.ft. Price will be much higher to get the same light output with recessed fixtures.

Why?

You can't. You have to find IES files. You can use external IES files downloaded to your PC = you don't have to limit yourself to Acuity brand fixtures. Any manufacturer or distributor that can't provide an IES file for their product shouldn't be trusted.
