Condensate drain line ideas (Heat Pump)

Sounds like it has a humidifier with a problem. I'd find the water connection and turn it off. A lot of them are just connected to a nearby water line with a clamp on self tapping valve much like the ones automatic ice makers use.

    Ridgid TP13002 Planer Parts?

Do you need the portability of a lunchbox planer? If not, I'd recommend shopping for a Parks, a Powermatic, a Rockwell Delta, a Boice Crane, or an old Craftsman which is a rebranded Parks. Any of these will still be running when you're ready to pass them down to your grandchildren. While a...

    Torque tools for over 300ft/lb

Not true. Let's say you're getting 103 ft-lbs at a setting of 100. Put that thru a 5:1 multiplier and you'll have 515 ft-lbs when the target was 500. But the error is still the same 3%.

    contractor experience

With mortgage interest rates pushing 7% for a 30 yr fixed, you can likely wait a few months and find plenty of subs looking for work in the building trades. Material prices will move back to sane levels as well. A significant amount of current construction was begun when interest rates were...

Any info on old Lincoln air compressors

Lincoln of St Louis is a manufacturer of lubrication equipment. They are not Lincoln Electric, the manufacturer of welding equipment. Since lube equipment is usually powered by pneumatic pumps, my guess would be that Lincoln marketed these compressors so that they could offer a complete lube...

Wright Tools, The Good, The Bad

We were taking down a 4000 sq ft metal building several years ago whose framework was all formed steel assembled with about a bazillion 5/8 bolts. Problem was, the original erector had used hex and square nuts at random. So, you're on a ladder with an impact and 2 sockets plus a wrench. 8...

Can I insulate double walled stove pipe?

Unless the code has changed in the last few years, you can't insulate B vent because part of the design of the pipe is one inch of free air space around the outside.

Did you mean clevis hook? Also known as a chain grab hook.

School me on grinding wheel dressers

In the typical industrial setting where a pedestal grinder will be used by people of widely varying skill (and judgement) levels, I'd say the star wheel type dresser is the safest option. The skilled worker can use it to produce an acceptable wheel surface, and when Sammy Sledgehammer grabs it...

Quieter table saw? Options? (within budget)

Agree 100%. Any saw with a universal motor will have the same sort of screaming noise that a skilsaw has. Also, replacing the standard V belt on a belt drive saw with a link type belt will eliminate most of the vibration that creates additional noise. My saw is a 30 yr old Delta belt drive...

    60 gal Dewalt compressors

TS shows the 3.7hp unit for $850 and it appears to have the same specs as the 3.7hp that's $1200+ at Northern. Given the fact that the TS 5hp weighs the same as the TS 3.7hp, my guess is the only difference is the 5hp rig runs the same pump as the 3.7hp, but at a higher speed. The 5hp doesn't...

remove my 18 inch flex duct and connect air handler directly to trunk?

You're correct, and the pressure drop thru flex is even worse than you guessed. https://calcerts.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045693614-Metal-Ducting-VS-Flexible-Ducting gives cfm for hard pipe and flex to maintain 0.1"/100ft pressure drop. 2000cfm for 18" metal and 1400cfm for 18" flex...

remove my 18 inch flex duct and connect air handler directly to trunk?

18" round tied into the middle of a duct that's 20x10 in each direction is plenty large for 2000 cfm. While 20" flex would be better, I doubt the 18" is a major problem since the remainder of the duct appears to be adequately sized. It could be changed if ultimately necessary, bit I wouldn't...

seeking info / ballpark price for a residential rooftop package HVAC unit

Gas package unit changeouts are fairly straightforward and generally don't present any unforeseen complications. In my area, NC, the going price is roughly 2.5 X the unit price. I've been out of the business for several years, but maintain an active hvac contracting license. I can buy a...

    Boice-Crane Bandsaw

The standard speed will be way too fast for metal cutting. To slow a wood cutting bandsaw sufficiently for metal cutting requires a double reduction using a countershaft and 2 pairs of belts and pulleys, so it isn't a simple matter of changing a drive pulley and a belt. I've got one of the old...

    High pressure hydraulic fittings

Both the a-604 and the a-630 couplers have a flow capacity of 2 GPM, so there's no advantage to the larger fitting. Equal flow rates indicate the internal passages of both are equal. If you already have the smaller fittings, you could use a steel 3/8 x 1/4 bushing at the pump outlet but the...

Save this lathe from the scrap pile

It is a cylindrical grinder. The only similarity to a lathe is the fact that they're both made for working on round things. For a person inexperienced in grinding, it is one of the most potentially deadly machines in a machine shop.

Help w/ Wayne 378-3SV Air Compressor specs and value?

The company became Symington-Wayne in the late 50's and Dresser had control of it by the late 60's, so that would indicate the unit is 55 to 65 years old. It was later sold to LeRoi Corp and stopped making compressors around 30 years ago, so parts are likely either unavailable or available only...

Heavy tables on casters or hoverpucks?

Googling hover puck gets nothing but some toys. Air bearings for machinery moving sell for $hundreds to $thousands each, depending on size, and use large volumes of air. The heaviest thing in my home shop is my planer at about 350#. It rolls effortlessly on a base made from one of the 400#...

    HVAC question

There should be a connector at the fan motor that will be hard wired to the fan motor and capacitor. The opposite (incoming) side will normally have 4 terminals and wires will be plugged into 3 of the 4 locations. The wiring diagram for the unit will show which color wire is for the fan speed...
