    Whats your favorite 'unique' tool?

Astro hose clamp tool. Not that you can't do them with a regular pair of pliers but they ALWAYS pop out a couple times and usually get my hand tore up working the hard to reach ones. After I discovered the Astros I literally get happy hearing those little clicks and seeing the clamp opened and...

    Martin Tools

I've got a large set of their chromed service wrenches, which look similar in design to the check nut wrenches. They're drop forged but with the opening laser(?) cut. They use the same blank for several sizes so jaw width will vary. Some get ridiculously narrow before it jumps to the next size...

    Recommend me a good headlamp

I've been more than happy with Energizer headlamps. I've had cheaper brands which sucked and one more expensive brand that didn't impress me for its price. Energizer seemed to hit the sweet spot for quality vs. price.

Storing Crowsfoot Sockets on 3/8" Steel Square Stock?

I use square aluminum bar stock- keeps it a bit lighter. Hair pin on each end. As others have stated, they're used so infrequently I don't mind taking the whole thing apart to get at one in the middle. I did have to sand them down a bit to get the crowsfeet to slide easily. Keystock can be...

    Drill bits for chrome

For what it's worth, I've had very good luck using carbide tipped and solid carbide bits in a hand drill. The ones I have are straight flute. To date I have drilled into a grade 8 bolt, broken extractor, broken torx bit, and an allen head set screw. Haven't exploded a bit yet. Picked mine up...

Snap On 4 way angle wrenches, a couple of questions.....

I've got the SnapOn set in SAE (without flank drive plus) and could not be happier with them. For metric I had Sunex which did not impress me at all. Functioned, but that's about it. Sold them and got the Tektons, which are far more impressive just visually. Beautiful and US made. Haven't been...

    Beads in your tire

Looked into them a long time ago for a heavy truck that had balancing issues. I was cheap and wasn't about to take it to a proper shop. It was split rim/tubed and as small as the beads were I couldn't get them through the valve stem. At the time I had also read of off raiders putting bb's in...

Finally busted my HF breaker bar

Yes it's the HF 25" but with the plastic handle. And that's the video that prompted me to buy it in the first place. But like I said, I wasn't yanking like a gorilla when it broke, just what I would consider a "normal" amount, so it had to have had some stress fractures weakening it over time...

Finally busted my HF breaker bar

Ha! Back to looking for non-Snapon :D Honestly I may go that route if the cheaper options don't hold up. But that'll be years from now.

Finally busted my HF breaker bar

Sorry for the lack of complete information. It's the 1/2" Pittsburgh Pro 25" breaker bar, usually on sale for $15. We do have plenty of 3/4" drive stuff. In this case though I was tightening 3/4" v-bolts that hold drill shanks to a frame and the 3/4 drive doesn't fit so well on the bottom...

Factory punched holes on bottom of KRL boxes

Sure tape works. But i can appreciate the feeling of having a proper finished look...even if you can't see it. I would suggest using this opportunity to buy a set of calipers. Even the cheap HF digital ones would be far more accurate than you need.

Finally busted my HF breaker bar

Had it about two years, only abused it once a year ago (bouncing on it with about 3/4 of my weight) and it took it like a champ. Today I was just pulling on it with normal grunt force and it suddenly got all sloppy. Of course I'm going to warranty it, but now I'm thinking I need a better one...

    Four Sided Open-End Wrench?

The few open end ratcheting wrenches I have used seem to have less contact area with the fastener, not more.

Anyone else lube their ratchet with 5w20

Nah I lube mine with hydraulic oil. Then drop them in the gravel...the dirt really holds the oil on the wrench and builds up a nice protective layer.

    German DIN 894 wrenches

Yeah we cut down wrenches too, but only the cheap ones and I don't think they'd hold up to what I was doing to that wrench. Palm strikes, hammer strikes, pneumatic hammer, and finally just squeezing with a massive set of channel locks is what did the trick. Had an up close view the whole time...

    German DIN 894 wrenches

Last week I was working on some 36mm JD hydraulic fittings in a tight spot. Crescent wrenches had too big of a head, combo wrenches were too long, and Tekton angle wrenches don't exist in that size. Enter a single DIN 894 I bought off amazon a while back for a rack and pinion project. The thing...

Long drawers with one set of slides

Man I'm in the exact same quandary. I've got an older 52" Husky 18 drawer box with a full width, single slide drawer. Thanks to my GarageJournal habit eclipsing my Gunboards habit, I've had change it from "rifle projects" to "1/2" sockets". So planning on a lot more weight going in. Initially I...
