Expanding a Double and adding a Boat-Port in Calgary

If your going by the bylaws of most communities, technically gates should all be inswing so that they don't protrude. Its not something that ever really gets enforced since gates are usually in their closed position and only open and closed temporarily, unless someone complains. The difference...

Did the inspector know you were going with 12' walls? The insulation board seams have not been taped in your photo showing the concrete being poured. I completely understand your position, you just want your garage done right, and you don't want to piss off the contractor in the process...

I don't want to sound negative here, but the more I look at your construction photos of the slab, the more potential issues I am seeing. Bearing in mind I am not on site with a measuring tape, but there are some things I've noticed from the photos. - The footing looks very shallow, from the...

Don't forget there is a Garage Journal discount for the RaceDeck that helps out a bit with the cost. Make sure you look at Polyurea coatings when you are researching epoxy floors. It looks the same but its tougher.

Not at all, through 3 years of building and renovations I've had more than my share of disasters, including two floods during construction. Your garage pad doesn't look as bad as mine did, but if I'm honest it looks like maybe the same thing happened. It looks like maybe it dried too quickly.

I think you are better off designing your gate so it opens like a regular garage door going up a track system. You could use a jackshaft door actuator to keep the overhead clearance open for your boat. All its going to take is one complaint from someone or an inspector driving by at the wrong...

My garage pad pour went horribly wrong b/c of a number of things out of our control, it looked a lot like yours only more widespread. For this reason I had to abandon my dream of having gleaming polyurea coated floors b/c when they patch concrete its never as strong as the original concrete so...

So for the first time since starting both my garage projects, we finally parked a vehicle inside one of them, lol. A happy discovery through the backup camera is that the red parking lines in the RaceDeck flooring line up perfectly with the grid lines on the backup camera making parking in...

I did the same thing, I had never used a 3D modeling tool in my life before using Sketchup, so my first attempts at sketching were pretty rudimentary, but its amazing how fast you can get good with it when you are motivated. I found myself addicted to the design process, and it was extremely...

Well that sounds pretty dang good, had I known that was an option I would have gone that route too.

Nothing too terrible exciting, but added some flush mount drawer pulls that were impossible to source locally, so had to purchase online. Much easier to open now, and can do so one handed.

Looks like a great project. I'm interested to see how it works out with not having any rebar in that concrete slab. I didn't even know fiber cement was an option. I have the same amount of compacted A Base gravel, and 6 inches of regular concrete reinforced with rebar on my garage pad and I...

Thank you! Thanks very much, the French doors are something that was added upon a suggestion from a friend and I am very glad we did it. The amount of natural light they let in helps keep the garage warmer in winter. I think I am addicted to pine as much as I am race deck. My basement is...

Thanks, a mini version of the big garage was exactly the look I was going for. I am going to be on the hunt for some nice squared off garbage and recycling bins that can tuck up against the wall.

Thank you very much. Even though I knew what to expect from doing the detached garage, the second race deck install on the attached garage was still a surprise. It just changes a space so much. What did you use to apply the concrete sealer in your garage? When they did my driveway last fall...

    25x28 Detached Garage

Finished up the attached garage this weekend. Followed the same theme as the detached garage. White walls with pine cabinets and trim, and race deck free flow tiles. Ran the race deck into the walk in closet as well. Obligatory shot with just the under cabinet lighting on.
