Ingersoll Rand SS4L5 air compressor opinions

Are you sure your compressor uses the SS4 pump? The only 80 gallon compressors I've seen use two-stage pumps. The cheaper 80 gallon one uses a TS4 pump, which is a two-stage. The more expensive ones use the v-twin style two-stage. The SS4 pump is a single stage pump. As for the Craftsman...

Ingersoll Rand SS4L5 air compressor opinions

Hi everyone, My old Campbell hausfeld compressor died on me the other day. It was around 30 years old, and was a 30 gallon horizontal tank, 4 hp setup. Originally put out 9.4 cfm at 90 psi. It's been running really hot and has a lot of oil blowby. I'm considering either replacing the pump or...

    OSHA Strikes Again!

Wow... That's quite a situation you've for there! I don't have any experience dealing with OSHA, but there are some basic steps you can take when dealing with any governmental agency. Considering the amount of the fine, it's probably worth it for you to to push back a little. First, find out...

    Valspar Implement Paint

I used the regular Valspar back when tractor supply carried it, and I really liked it. I painted my trailer with their gloss black four years ago and it still looks like new, even though it spends 100% of its life outdoors, in the sun and the snow. I was less impressed with the new "Majic"...

Shop Vac: Rigid 1450 or 1680

I have the 1956, and it is a great vac. The 1851 is pretty much the same, but doesn't have the stainless tank. Of your options, if you don't want or need the removable blower in the 1680, I would get the 1450. They both use a pleated filter, so I wouldn't pay much attention to the online...

    Rejected replacement Craftsman at Sears

I don't see a problem with this, frankly. The warranty isn't limited to the original purchaser and it is a lifetime warranty. Sears sells a ton of craftsman because of this warranty. That being said - breaking a tool to get a brand new replacement is not the same thing.

    garage door insulation

I also used 1.5" foamboard. It's R9 or something along those lines. It fits into the door perfectly and is held into place by the lips on the metal panels. I've had it that way for two years now, no movement of any kind. It looks about a millions times better than trying to stuff fiberglass...

Insulating garage - how to handle unfinshed ceiling joists?

This is exactly what I used in my garage. I have a relative with a large commercial roofing company who has pallets of rigid foam insulation. I screwed the foam to the ceiling and then taped the seams with hvac foil tape. The stuff I used is either r9 or r11. The stuff installs easily with...

Electric baseboard heat in 3 car

I tried electric baseboard heat in my two-car attached. I put in three 220v units and kept the garage at 50 degrees. The garage is insulated, although the ceiling is only thick foamboard, r-11. My electric bill went up about $200 a month! My first bill was actually $900, due to estimated...

    Building fastener inventory?

No offense, but this makes no sense to me. I suppose this rationale makes sense if you rarely do anything in your garage that requires a fastener, but for me - I can't have enough fasteners on hand. My time is simply too valuable to run to the hardware store every time I need a bolt or a lock...

    Harbor Freight 94803 and Ingersoll-Rand 231

Only the HF wrench is new, the IR wrench is old(er). I really don't know how old it is, because I came upon it second-hand. I'm pretty sure the HF impact mechanism is on the right. It's covered in a thick black grease, and didn't appear to have any wear. However, I say that having never looked...

    Harbor Freight 94803 and Ingersoll-Rand 231

Like I said, I doubt the components are identical. Maybe the HF gun uses a lower grade of steel and/or aluminum, I don't know. What is detectable by visual inspection is the quality of the finishing work - I didn't observe any roughly finished parts, incomplete machining, etc. Anyway, the...

    Harbor Freight 94803 and Ingersoll-Rand 231

Ha! Actually, no, it wasn't working when I first got it. I think the problem was the grease that was on the vanes, they were sticking. I cleaned them off and it's working great now.

    Harbor Freight 94803 and Ingersoll-Rand 231

Hi everyone, I was having some trouble getting my new HF 94803 impact wrench to work properly, so I stripped it down and cleaned off the vanes. While doing this I noticed that it was essentially identical to my very old and worn IR 231 (the one I've been going to rebuild for about 5 years...
