Steel building or Wood? - seeking pros/cons

I love my steel building 40 x 80 with a 4 /12 pitch and 2 ft overhangs. It is hard to tell it from a stick built since I did concrete block 4 ft from grade . The maintenance on the building vs wood has been very little. the building is surrounded by woods and I do not have to worry about...

    Car lift ..inspections?

Heck I have two lifts in my home shop and the insurance company State Farm said nothing. I have several classic car policies with them also . The agent herself is a car nut also so maybe that is why they never give me a hassle.

Is my new roof going to leak?

WOW, OMG:wtf::wtf: You must stop that job and hire a home inspector and a real contractor.. I'm lost for words with that kind of workmanship. The roof and those flashing points are the most important part of protecting a house from the elements and extending the life of the structural and...

    Rapidair Maxline air lines

I used the Max line kit and if you run the line through 1" EMT 10 ft sections you can use the conduit to straighten the curves. I also left the EMT as a cover on the 10ft drops down my steel columns in my building . It protects the line from getting banged and improves the look of the line...

Hairline cracks in new concrete driveway

I do a lot of concrete slab work for equipment cabinets in the middle of the woods and they would not accept a crack like that. The corner that cracked in the one pic will end up ******* and getting worse with the freeze cycle and may even create a trip hazard . Replace it now or it will bug...

    Rotary vs Bend Pak

I have been in the auto business for almost 30 years and own both brand of lifts and several other brands. My Rotary lift is used in my production shop and the Bend pak is at my home garage . The Bend Pak also has a sock to catch the 2nd dripping cylinder that has been installed on it . Mac

Apron in front of garage.. to pave or crete?

In Pa I would not pin it to the building. Just make sure you have good drainage and pack at least 6" of clean 2B under the apron and use rebar in the slab #4. If you pin it to the building it will crack for sure. If your on lot of clay place 8" of clean 2 B under the slab. Mac

    Greg Smith?

I helped two friends assemble GS lifts one four post and one two post. They drove to the warehouse to save the freight. They wanted me to buy in on a lift to save another $100.00 per lift. I didn't and chose to wait to purchase a Bend-pak . All three of us have been wrenching for over 30...

Cost to heat a radiant floor

I live in Central PA area and have a 40' x 80' steel building with 6'' insulation , 6''-8'' slab with 2'' foam underneath . I keep the shop at 55* air temp and the floor would be around mid 60*. Heat my house from my shop also that is around 3500 sq. ft. for around $2,000.00 per year. The...

Honesty. On long term flooring epoxy or other. Question.

Nothing is forever and the abuse a floor takes with temp changes, cars and foot traffic all takes a toll on the surface just like the elements do a car paint job. If you use your garage for welding , grinding ,floor jacks and abuse your wasting your time with high end epoxy systems without a...

    How much garage for $35k?

I know your dreaming! You mentioned zoning regs and you live in Maryland. The excavation plan submittal and engineering will eat half of your budget before you pick what size of building you want. The concrete is on average $120.00 a yard , add rebar an labor your done. I hate to be a dream...

Free Nat Gas - New pole building heat?

I have a rough idea the area of the gas wells and the free gas in this day and age is a true blessing. Many of the companies drilling the wells can no longer offer the free gas since the government is going to start taxing the drillers with the new governor coming in this year. I live in...

    200 amp service to garage

I didn't know this thread was that old till I read the last post. I went through the same back in 2010 with my new shop. In the end a 320 amp dual meter base is your best way of doing the upgrade from a cost unless your out building/Garage is so far away from the house. My meter and house...
