Further proof GJ has caused runaway inflation in the used vise market

There are no victims, only volunteers. You COULD scoop up deals, but you CHOOSE not to put in the time to find them. Stop whining about what other people do, how they spend their money, and what they invest their time and money collecting. Start hitting antique malls, garage sales, estate...

Further proof GJ has caused runaway inflation in the used vise market

I've got a 32x40 shop. I have a huge Wilton on smallish table I built, my grandfather's Parker on a smallish table table he built, A Wilton bullet I've restored that's had the rear of the housing very nicely brazed back on, a Wilton Cadet that needs a handle and a swivel base, and a swivel-jaw...

$100 worth of Mac at the NE GA Swap Meet

Dunno if this was a good deal or not, but for $100, I’ll have at least a full set of quality Mac wrenches for my race trailer tool box, added a 1 1/16 combo to my junkyard/road trip box, and some for the Ammo Box tool kit for my ‘62 K10 project. Sockets are 3/8 6pt standard. Three ratcheting...

Shop organization for those that are OCD

I am currently building wood doors for my pallet rack. 10-ft tall x 4-ft wide (each). I have blue tote boxes for parts storage, and the upper shelves are spaced so they just barely clear the tote boxes, to maximize space. There's one "short" shelf that is just high enough to store cylinder heads...

Not a tool , but pretty neat find !

Capped Liberty half dollar. It's real. Nobody is going to bother making a fake of a low-value coin. (under a couple hundred dollars) It's a neat piece, for sure, and I wouldn't mind one for my collection.

    Match for Crowntop Silver Hammertone?

Is there a really, really good match out there for the crowntop Craftsman hammertone silver paint? I found a three-drawer intermediate box, but it needs to be restored. I'd add it to my dad's original top and bottom boxes, but I want it to match.

WTB Craftsman Crown-top gray/red drawers intermediate chest

I'm looking for a nice Craftsman crown-top ('60s-'70s) 2 or 3-drawer intermediate box. These are the gray-silver hammer finish with red drawers boxes.

Pegboard...is it really the way to go?

I have a 32x40 shop, 12-foot walls. I have the entire shop sheeted in white-face pegboard from the ceiling down to 4-feet above the floor. I've had it that way for 15 years, and absolutely love it. GOOD pegboard hooks are the key--they should require some force to push into the holes. I...

Vintage craftsman drill press: add mass/weight to it for stability?

The drill press is in my storage building right now, but I plan on bringing it home in the coming weeks, and I'll DEFINITELY be posting pics. Especially now that I've got a table elevator on the way. Without the elevator, it was a good tool but one I wouldn't have used on a regular basis.

Vintage craftsman drill press: add mass/weight to it for stability?

So after years of hunting, I got a SCREAMING deal on a floor-model vintage Craftsman drill press--comes with a work light, and oh yeah, a mint condition Palmgren/Craftsman rotary table! ($125 total). I just picked up a crank-style table lift for it, so I'll have the complete set-up operational...

Any structural engineers here? I-beam/Trolly question!

I've got a good cherry picker. Hate using it. And while I've got space to store things, I hate having to store things. A chain hoist also gives a whole lot more control, and I don't have to worry about sliding the hoist in and out with it loaded, etc. etc.

Any structural engineers here? I-beam/Trolly question!

I sort of did this in the first configuration. I sandwiched an original rafter with a pair of 2x6 boards, bolted through all three. One end of the boards ran back to the top plate of the wall and set on it, and at the other side of the boards, I simply put a 4x4 wood timber up, knocked into...

Any structural engineers here? I-beam/Trolly question!

Thanks for the input, guys! Typically, I am the king of "There's no kill like overkill," but in this case I'm wondering a few things: It will be used almost exclusively for lifting engines out of cars with a chain hoist. I don't need it to lift anything heavier than that, because I simply don't...

Any structural engineers here? I-beam/Trolly question!

Looking at installing a trolly and chain hoist in my shop remodel. It'll span about 15 feet. The shop building is completed already, so I can't have a crane or back hoe or anything come in to lift it into place, so I'll have to do it with a couple friends and ladders. My question is this...

Question about home/shop outdoor LPG tanks and distance from road for filling

I've got two gas shop heaters that I'll probably have installed in my shop before the winter is over. I'll need to have an outside tank to feed them. I've never had a tank before--my driveway is a downhill ***** to get up and down, and the grass next to it makes getting up and down off-road...

Sheet rocking the ceiling... finishing the seams?

Thanks for all the input, guys! A couple final thoughts: The gloss white is strictly to reflect light. I've done it before, and it's always been worth it--in smaller, lower garages... four of them over the years, actually. It's not a living room, so I'm not overly concerned with great detail...

Sheet rocking the ceiling... finishing the seams?

I will see how it goes this winter, but will probably blow in insulation for next summer. I thought about metal for the ceiling, but the cost for the materials was prohibitive the last time I looked a couple years ago. There's also a few light sockets up there I'm going to tap into, need to do...

Sheet rocking the ceiling... finishing the seams?

Going to hang sheet rock on the ceiling of the shop next week, and I'm not looking forward to it. Quick background: 32z40 building, 12 foot ceilings. I've been in this shop for over 15 years, and no ceiling has made it miserable in the summer, and cold as hell in the winter. It had black...
