Putting up a new workshop. Power questions.

Might as well just bite the bullet and get PoCo to put in 3-phase service now, because you never know.

    Power to a distant well

The phrase "Virginia with reliable power" is just as ridiculous. He does lose power from time to time, like everyone else in the area. But that's normal here. Been like that all my life. He lives at the end of a private road, maybe a half mile long, that serves a dozen houses. The well is maybe...

Exterior light - how would fix this?

Other than the sloppy wiring, was something broken that needed fixing? Just wondering how much of a solution you're asking for. It looks like that is pretty well protected underneath the eave. Would it get direct rain on it?

    Power to a distant well

If you mean the voltage drop I don't know. He bought the wire based on what the pump needed accounting for all of that length. I didn't go down into the tank so I don't know what those 4x4 boxes have. The power probably comes in from the left and out to the right in the photograph. Makes sense...

Putting up a new workshop. Power questions.

#8 green for the ground per my thread. Everything else seems pretty correct.

Putting up a new workshop. Power questions.

That's all in the second thread I linked to (the last few posts are all you need to read). 60A. 4 conductors.

Putting up a new workshop. Power questions.

That's way too big. You are doing just about exactly what I did, and I used #6 TWHN in 3/4" PVC conduit. Use 1" to make it easier. Similar threads abound: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/upgrading-electrical-service-to-detached-garage.399742/#post-7414682...

    Power to a distant well

I'm sure he had zero interest in solutions like that. This is 2023 and we have electricity to do this stuff for us now. :)

    Power to a distant well

The tank drains. Buried as it is, it shouldn't come anywhere near freezing. Not sure about the pressure; the barn is about the same elevation as the house so probably not that high at the tank, but certainly higher at the pump.

    Power to a distant well

Just to wrap this up, he is mostly finished. He buried 1-1/4" 250 PSI PVC pipe (this is pretty thick stuff) and #6 UF-b cable from the barn to the well. At the barn he buried a new septic tank to use as a well house for a pressure tank that controls the well. And then just the PVC pipe from the...

    Dummy needing advise

I addressed that option previously. Those are momentary pushbuttons that are not really suitable for this use unless you have them acting on a master control relay (that you would need to add) that energizes the pressure switch. If you were comfortable with doing that you probably wouldn't be...

    Dummy needing advise

You want to use those buttons each and every time the compressor has to run to rebuild pressure? Or you are hoping to use them as master on/off and let the pressure switch turn it on and off as needed?

Rewiring sub panel for EV charger upgrade

New #6 copper went OK in 3/4" PVC for me, but the older TW stuff I had lying around was too fat. But 1" would have been easier, no question.

Metal building 400 ft from house

You talked repeatedly about pulling wires through 3" PVC and there in the pics is the 3" PVC. What do you mean it won't exist once the project begins?

Advice for changing welder/compressor outlets and wiring

How has that compressor been connected in the past? EDIT: Never mind, I see you mentioned that they were connected with 6-50. Is there a HP listed on the compressor motor? What size breakers were they on before? Here's a related thread that puts some perspective on the HP rating thing...

Rewiring sub panel for EV charger upgrade

Why just EV owners, and not anyone else who makes a decision about an electrical appliance? All sorts of power sources feed the grid, and this afternoon's mix might not be the same as tomorrow morning's. Am I supposed to make some sort of decision based on the possibility that a certain type of...

Replacement power switch for drill press

That is nice. My PM1150 has a much simpler Furnas switch with a Telemechanique starter.

Wifi inside and outside metal pole barn?

I see your point. For $199 though I'd get the Dream Router since it does three useful things for me.

Wifi inside and outside metal pole barn?

I'm getting the Synology NAS specifically so I have NAS. The possibility of putting the NA on it would be a bonus. If it works, maybe I'll buy that stuff that a local has and then my router would be in the Unifi system. At first I thought you meant getting Cloud Key rather than Synology for...

Wifi inside and outside metal pole barn?

I just encountered another possibility: running the Unifi NA on a NAS. https://mariushosting.com/how-to-install-unifi-controller-7-on-your-synology-nas/ Does this sound doable? I have a Synology NAS on the way.
