Air line broke off my compressor.

Agree with everyone else. Probably lost the ferrule when it came off. You will need a new one. Bring that piece you have to any hardware store and they should be able to hook you up.

    old school drywall???

My first house in NY had just as you described. No holes but lots of metal mesh. It was built in 54.

Pallet racking typed shelving at Lowes

Sounds like the shelves I bought from Lowe's. Except mine came in a box. When I put it together it is about 6' tall, 6' wide, and 30" deep with 3 particle board shelves. I have had mine over a year with allot of heavy car parts on it without a problem.

    Supplies???

My thought on supplies is when you make a run for something buy at least 2. And if you can get them cheaper in bulk buy the bulk pack. Example would be electrical outlets and switches. I never buy the single. I always get the 10 pack. If I make a run to the parts store I always check to see...

Commercial property or residential for shop.

Yep 172. Pretty much my insurance will take my money if I build on my residential property. But if I have to make a claim they will make it a nightmare for me. If I build on a commercial piece of land they "don't have a policy for me". What I get from my few conversations with my agent is that...

Commercial property or residential for shop.

Talked to my agent again. After she made a few phone calls she pretty much said that they do not have many options for what I want to do and I should look elsewhere to insure it. Everyone here telling me to shop around are right. I plan on making a few more calls just to get some insurance info...

    Torn between two houses

I agree with the people that are saying neither house is a good plan. House A is good for the present but not a good long term plan. House B gives you more work to do and you already said you are tired of all the work. I was in the same spot you are in. I bought a house that needed allot of work...

Commercial property or residential for shop.

***** that it is harder for us because we were mechanics. BTW I was told that since my tools "were" used to make money they are now pretty much unisurable through state farm. My agent may have been wrong on that but I will find out after she makes a few calls and gets back to me.

The Cons of this design (shop build)

I agree with every one else about the roof. Your drawing looks allot like one I was drawing up and the only difference I had was swapping the 2 garage doors and putting the lift on the left wall. I think I put the smaller door 4 or 5 feet from the left wall so I would have room to put benches...

Commercial property or residential for shop.

So I talked to my insurance agent today. Conversation went a little different than I thought. She has some phone calls to make to get all my questions answered but I got a good idea of whats up. Pretty much what she said is if I build a shop on my land it may cause lots of problems. First off as...

Commercial property or residential for shop.

Thanks again for all the comments. After talking to a few people including some business owners I know I have found that the utilities would be a bit more for the commercial shop but not much. I also found out the taxes on the property are only about $600 a year. So that will not be the killer...

What Would You Do With This Place?

I would love to find something like that close to my house. As long as the price is right. I would give up a bit of shop space to have the coolness of having an old gas station. But as I am finding out there would have to be allot of research. EPA, taxes, insurance, etc...

Commercial property or residential for shop.

Thank you for the comments. It gives me a few more things I will have to look into. About the paint booth. It is one of those things I would like in a shop but its not necessary. I am not a body man so I will do very little painting. Most of the time it would probably be just wasted space. I...

Commercial property or residential for shop.

About 15 min. It is the biggest downfall I see with the commercial property idea.

Commercial property or residential for shop.

A little background info. I was a dealership mechanic for 8 years and for the last 3 I have been working on heavy equipment for a large company. I work out of town most of the time during the week and have my weekends for playing in the garage. Since I was young I have had dreams of a big shop...

    Barn light source ?

How did you attach the conduit to the pendant lamp? I have been looking for a couple of lamps this style for inside my garage and found the ones in a Lowe's when I was out of town. I wrote down the name of them and the Lowe's stock #. When I went to my local Lowe's to buy them they did not...

Your thoughts on these framing ideas please

What if the long angled wall was sloped with the tall side being in the front and the rear most part of the wall would line up with the rest of the walls. It would allow you to keep only one slope for the roof. It may be worth a try.

Harbor Freight & Waterloo(Sears Craftsman) service cart info

Thanks for sharing you research with us. One question. Can you take the lid off of either one or at least flip it completely over so it is not sticking up. When I was working at the dealership the locking lid would have been mandatory but for my personal garage I don't need the lid and would...
