School me on oxy/act tanks please.

You might want to consider using propane for your fuel if you're only cutting and heating. As far as cylinders go, the bigger the better until you get to the point that it is too big to handle in your garage/shop. Your refill cost for a large or small bottle isn't much different, so your $/ cu...

    Sell your spares or ???

Do you have a second set of wrenches currently? I've pretty much settled on buying wrenches at this point having two sets in my main shop chest. A standard length and a long length. (not counting stubbies) As I've purchased different brands of wrenches trying to decide what is the most...

    Craftsman Universal Sockets

Wish I could have said the same. I tried to get along with them, but they ended up thrown in the scrap bin more than once. My cheap dad would see them in there and pick them out because it was a waste. Then he'd attempt to use them, not get along with them and get out an old pair of...

    sheet metal bead rolling question

Sureshot, I know what you mean about being a waste to do so. Those are some stout fenders. We used to have an IH 784 on the farm at one point. I'd either keep them and list them on some online classifieds where tractor people hang out or ebay. Otherwise, the first cut into them with the...

    sheet metal bead rolling question

thanks for all the help guys. I figured I'd need to beef it up if there was going to be any chance of it working. My biggest concern at this point is waves in the lip, but it'll probably be fine. I'll test it on some scrap before rolling it. Sureshot- the tractor is a 10-20 McCormick...

    sheet metal bead rolling question

Ok, so I'm very new to working sheet metal, so bear with me. I'm considering fabricating new fenders for a tractor I'm restoring. The fender pieces in question are a simple semi circular shape of about a 2' radius with a half inch edge rolled into the each edge (inside edge used for welding...

    Felt like a deal

Looks like I'm going to Lowes today! I was looking at one of those last fall for the snowmobile trailer, but couldn't justify it at the $150-200. I could handle 25

Auction Score - 800lbs of American Iron

Hold on, I have to see this gloating on not one tool site, but two? And the gloat is bigger here with the vises? You ****! By the way, you could have paid for a quite a bit of your haul by buying the c-man RAS's you mentioned on owwm and take the $100 buyout emerson has on them...

Best large tongue and groove pliers

Just looked at my CL 480's. At the widest adjustment there's all of a 5.5" opening w/ parallel jaws and with the handles 2" apart. I can use that one handed easily and my hands are far from gorilla hands. Once you get beyond the capacity of the pliers, the handles are going to spread quickly.

    Antique Tool Box

I've seen a box like that before. It was my grandpa's and I forget if it was his dad's or Grandma's dad's. From my research, there's a good chance that it was from a generation prior to Great Grandpa having it. There's likely spots for different sized hand planes as well. Right now, it is...

oops, got a little busy- Enderes buy

As I said before, the prybars weren't a "need" at the moment, but for the price and being on a spur of the moment binge I figured WTH and grabbed them. They just have the feel of a quality steel that can be trusted to handle a long hard worked life and look to have the right shape. Glad to...

oops, got a little busy- Enderes buy

Swung through the local Farm and Fleet today for some general supplies. Made my usual swing though the tool isle and saw Enderes products on sale. Made in the US, priced right, good quality and me with an incomplete punch and chisel collection. Then there was a roll kit of chisels and punches...

Yeah, it ***** living in the country.

I'm with ya there... Raised on a farm. Moved between a couple of population 90,000 towns for work. bought a house because at the time because it looked like I'd be at the corporate office for +5 years, the housing market looked to have some "great deals" so buying looked to be smart at the...

Yost 204, 205 and 206 machinist vises HOT DEAL

sounds like I have the last 206 on the way. At first, they cancelled my order but then found one more in the warehouse. Should be delivered tomorrow. I'm traveling for work now, so my poor housemate will have a good time with that. Maybe UPS will put it where he can get at it with the engine...

interesting. My 3/4 ratchet is urrea as well as some of my big combo wrenches, all of which are Mexico. US made tools from the Mexican counterpart of Proto (historically). That's backwards....

School me on Cordless Receporcating Saws

The farm I worked at through college had a cordless NiCd Dewalt recip. That thing was a horrible battery hog and I'd have to take a half dozen batteries with to have a chance at making a simple cut through a stretch of 12 gauge metal. No comparison to a corded version, but stringing cord to...
