    The VISES of Garage Journal

That's my vise. It was made in Japan during the late 70's or 80's. That's the time Craftsman was having their bench vises built in Japan. And this is either a genuine Craftsman missing the plate badge or an identical knock off. Yep same thing, and they're great vises. Well then you must...

    Show me your ANVIL

Speaking of Peter Wrights I was given this for free at a garage sale. I don't know anything about anvils or what can be done in regards to restoring one. So what are your guys thoughts on what I could do with this one? I was thinking about machining the bottom flat so it doesn't wobble...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

What tasks are best suited for the different horsepower ratings? I have a 1/3 hp and 1/2 hp. I like to have one grinder with a buffing wheel and wire wheel and the other with stones.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

What do you guys recommend for lubricating a bench vise? I bought some 'multi-purpose' grease but the stuff I bought is too thin for my liking. The vise I took apart had some really thick stuff that I'd like to use as it tends to stick together and not sweat out of the base like this stuff...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I have an Athol 624N I'm in the process of restoring. I don't know how to go about removing the jaws. Has anyone seen jaws like this before? What's the purpose and how do I remove them? Also anyone know what the N stands for in the 624 or a time window for when it might have been...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

I just bought my first commercial grinder, it's a 1/2 hp 7 incher. It's in good condition and has the wheel guards, but not the end caps. If anyone here has a parts grinder I'd be interested purchasing the end caps. Send me a PM or reply. Thanks

Can anyone tell me anything about this old cast iron table?

I'm not sure what 710 ports are? EDIT: lol, I'm a *******. $80 for the table and the Wilton. Looking at the top of the table there's a bunch of circular marks indicative of a stamp strike. I'm thinking there was some leather work done on top of it, but not sure if it was just re-purposed...

Can anyone tell me anything about this old cast iron table?

I found a local advertisement for a Wilton Vise/Table combo. I was originally only interested in the Vise and I figured I could convince the person to sell me just the vise no table. When I got there I liked the table more than I imagined and the price was right for both items so I figured...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

drivesitfar: That first picture is it! Thanks for your help can you tell me what they go for? Any idea what the three set screws are for? Any chance you can identify this Wilton? It was fairly small and had very faint stampings of wilton on the top, not the usual bold embossing. The only...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Can you guys help me identify a vise brand model or type just from my description. The description: It was a unique vise at-least to me, because when you opened the vise the rear jaw/entire portion of the vise moved not the front jaw. Also it was moving on a sort of "ways" like you see on a...

let's see your craftsman block grinders

This thread grows too fast. Just picked up this 1/3 HP for $12. Spins like a top. Guy I bought it from told me "It's just an old craftsman and not worth the 30 minute drive to pick it up." Next to my restored 1/2 HP
