Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

So would I be better off buying a single phase motor instead? Problem is I need 60CFM for blasting, I would need 15-20HP.

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

Just measured. The 200 amp box is 38 feet from the compressor.

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

Not at all. I appreciate all the replies. That's why I'm asking on here before I make anymore purchases. I did not know that amps change going from 3 phase to single phase source. Know any good resourses as a way to determine how many amperages I would be using on single phase power? The rating...

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

So how many more amps would it be running on single phase? Is it a significant increase? If I increase the voltage, I can lower the amps. My phase converter I will be buying works in both 460 & 230. Then in that case, maybe it would be worth using a step up transformer to lower my amps.

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

If I wanted to run on less amps. Not doing that anymore though, I'll just rewire the motor. I also just confirmed, I have a 200 amp breaker box.

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

100 amps? 200 amps? :D No way, it is 35@230V. 18@460V. With a phase converter, I would be running around 50 amps. Found a sticker on the air compressor for a local company that services compressors, so I am using them. I am having an electrician install two 220V outlets from my breaker and...

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

I'm probably not doing a VFD anymore, just a magnetic starter from Weg. I can find starters anywhere from $100-2000. Not sure why the prices are so drastically different.

Doesn't look like it. No box.

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

    It's 35amps @ 230V. 18amps @ 460V to be exact. 1760RPM.

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

The motor says it runs on 230/440v. It has a 440V plug though, it would have to be rewired.

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

Nope that was my mistake. :lol_hitti It's a 220V outlet. I am up converting 220 to 440V single phase. Then I'm buying a 440V phase converter to three phase. So I will be running a three phase 440V motor on single phase power.

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

Well the **** just hit the fan. Just bought a 15HP 440V Quincy QT-15 piston compressor I got a deal on for a grand. They retail for six grand. This one is a 2005 model. It's 35 amps. I will be buying a step up transformer from 220 to 440. This project will be done by the summer. A bodyshop...

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

Wonder if a gas 220V generator would power one, one that has enough wattage and amps. Right now I am eyeballing a 13HP compressor. That is the lowest amount I need to blast 50CFM. I really don't have any neighbors, I am building a garage next to my home where I will be performing bodywork. I...

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

That's what I noticed too, they are very underpriced for what they are. I was finding 40 and 50HP rotaries for under a grand, that surprised me a lot. That's a grand cheaper than some of the 5HP single phase compressors at Home Depot.

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

Thank you, that is what I was very curious to find out. That answers my question, I do not plan on making any purchases at this time.

Using weaker phase converter to slow down compressor?

At that price you might as well route three phase to your home, lol!
