    More compressed air system?

Are you near Flagstaff? Call up the Freightliner dealer/service center there and see what 1/2 nylon air lines would run you per foot. The air brake lines are rated to at least 200psi. I'm sure they stock (or can order) the push-to-connect fittings too. You can get tees, NPT adapters, etc. You...

Regulator vs end of hose pressure

Probably about 1.5psi for 30ft and 3psi for 60ft. That's for 10 SCFM @ 100 psi. Crank up that regulator to compensate!

    Some Gas Grill Help

When I bought my house, I bought a Weber Genesis and I'm loving it. It's awesome for larger grilling tasks, but if I'm grilling just a steak or two, it takes a little longer to heat up. I got the one with a side burner, which is surprisingly useful for boiling stuff in the summer so one doesn't...

How to waste time upgrading a compressor

After I posted that, I had to go double check. I had the regulator at about 90-95psi and the compressor kicked in. I still was draining it down at about 5-6psi per minute with it running. So, my apologies, I was wrong earlier. Apparently that compressor doesn't keep up with the die grinder. This...

How to waste time upgrading a compressor

Sweet experiment. Thanks for sharing the results! Hey, I've got that single-stage Husky Pro in my garage! (I haven't done much since plumbing my garage for air yet) but I recall being able to run a die grinder and have the compressor kick on and off while I was grinding. How much pressure are...

New compressor just arrived...recommendations for piping, filters, reg, etc.

Ha, that's the other end of the pull-cord--it comes with a little ferrule that you can crimp to loop it around something, in my case, the top of the compressor. The actual valve is at the bottom.

Yeah. It does get cold out there. Some time in the next few weeks, I'll start speccing out insulation and wall coverings. I think I'm going to go with OSB to cover the walls once the insulation is in there. Also, the shelves on the left hand side are directly attached to the studs. I'm debating...

How often do you use the OPEN end of a wrench??

I had to undo the unions in my compressed air filter setup to fix leaks in the pipe thread connections (my fault for using teflon tape instead of pipe dope). Open ended wrenches to get the unions off and back on again. The biggest issue is remembering which size the nuts are. Was it 13/16"? Or...

New compressor just arrived...recommendations for piping, filters, reg, etc.

Unions are awesome for being able to start things in different places without having to unscrew everything. I went to a semi-truck shop and got some air brake line fittings and nylon hose to isolate the compressor from my copper air lines as well as to connect my hose reel. They're a few bucks...

Phew, I finally got my compressed air system complete! I got a Norgren regulator/filter and a Motorguard M60 submicron filter to keep the water out of my tools. I also have a couple drains, and my taps come off the top of the mainline. I really hope this keeps the water out. I ended up going...

    what'dya buy today.. Black Friday

It was just a little late in coming. I picked up their 5-pc super heavy duty soft finish set, the cutters, and a bunch of microfinish stuff and pliers from their 50% off web specials while I was at it. Earlier in the morning, I picked up a matching Steelcase 5-drawer desk and rolling swivel...

    Aircat VS Ingersoll-Rand

I actually ordered the IR 3102 (and its inline mate, the 3108). It was such a horrible handle action, and pressing the trigger was quite startling and jerky. I returned them and got a used Silver Eagle SE355 and a used Snap-On PT200A instead. I don't have any info on the Aircat or the Sunex...

    Die grinder

I ended up buying a used Snap On PT200 (straight die grinder) and a Silver Eagle SE355 (90 deg) used off eBay. I originally got the Ingersoll Rand 3108 and 3102 sets new, but they didn't feel right, and had no speed control on the handle--so I returned them. I'm sure a lot of their stuff is...

Is buying an expensive cordless drill worthwhile?

I'm enjoying the heck out of my Makita BHP454 drill. It comes in a 2-pack with a impact driver and two batteries. The standard batteries are 3.0Ah--and they last a pretty long while on a charge, as as well as hold a charge without charging. Although, after looking it's quite a bit more than that...

Insert appropriate compressed-air tool man-grunt here. I ordered a hose reel a month ago and it showed up yesterday. It's a Coxreels EZ-Coil. The EZ-Coil feature slows down the retraction speed a bunch but still retracts fully, which I think will be nice so I don't have to worry about the hose...

Hey Gang, I've gained enough knowledge by reading threads here that it's time to stop being a lurker and share what I've done with all that information so far. And it'd also be cool to document the progression as my garage gets more functionality and more organized. My house has a non-detached...
