    Smoke/fire detector in detached garage

I tried searching but couldn't find an answer... I'm building a barn that is 200' from my house. I'm looking for some ideas on fire (and security). I'm hoping for something that does not require monitoring, since I'm only 200' away. I'm also hoping to have a solution that doesn't rely...

Broken Horn Goat Barn (56x40) Stick Build

Thanks. It will be metal roof and sides. I accidentally deleted my initial post. Here's a slideshow of the build. Its going slow because I'm building this on my own, but had help setting trusses and finishing the slab.

Pouring a slab in 90+ heat

As usual for internet forums 50% say go for it... 50% say don't do it. I'll flip a coin come Sept. But I definitely received and appreciate the learnin' I asked for.... and got. Thanks

Pouring a slab in 90+ heat

I hate to do it, but I may postpone until mid Sept. This may not be too hard because in Tennessee getting contractors to return calls, let alone show up, takes at least a month -- if at all!

Pouring a slab in 90+ heat

I'm in the planning stages but expect to pour my mono slab in the next month. Its been 90+ the whole summer and I expect it won't change much. I've been researching, but was hoping for some help too. What should I look/listen for when talking to contractors and concrete companies? I will be...

Planning for 3 phase in new shop, newb question

Thanks!. For example, I saw a 3 phase 3hp ironworker for sale. Could I just swap the motor out, rather than go 3 phase? Or is a VFD my best option?

Planning for 3 phase in new shop, newb question

Its not feasible for me to run a new meter to the shop. Its considered "commercial" if I do that. So, I'm stuck running 100 amp MHF out to the building.

Planning for 3 phase in new shop, newb question

I'm about to break ground on a new shop. I plan to run 90-100 amps to it. As it stands right now I will only be running a few single phase 220 tools (welder, compressor, etc.) However, now that I am going to finally have a shop, I want to have the capability to run 3 phase tools. I'm...

2-2-2-4 AL MHF to pole barn at 200 ft

Great to hear. So a 60a breaker in the main panel and a 60a panel in the shop? Thanks for the help!

2-2-2-4 AL MHF to pole barn at 200 ft

Long time lurking, finally pulling the trigger. I'm in the planning stages of a pole barn about 180-200 ft from my meter. I will have a 100 amp breaker in the house. I want 90-100 amps at the barn. It will be a one man shop with a lift, small plasma cutter, 180 amp welder and gas heat. I'm...

Show off your sheet metal fab projects

This is my first real attempt at sheet metal forming. I am rebuilding a tub for my '51 CJ3a. I'm wishing I had a few more tools - like a shrinker/stretcher, *******, dollys, etc.
