    Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT Man Cave

My dad who is 70, has Parkinson's and worn out shoulders and knees from being in construction all his life, has been helping nearly every chance I work on the barn. He also helped with putting the fence up, and he and an uncle that helps him built the 12x16 shed to the right before I moved into...

    Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT Man Cave

20 x 30 x 10 w/ 4/12 roof and 48" service door. I have used metal that I may line the inside with. Posts are 10 ft on center. Didn't realize how difficult that would make securing things once the barn was finished... Still working on how I want to lay out the garage. Probably a 30" bench on...

    Barn Door Challenge

Not really. Being a maintenance supervisor I have to deal with sectional doors and openers on a semi-regular basis. The main spring up top scares the **** out of me and I've only adjusted them a few times. Sectional doors are like IFS of doors - more moving parts, more things that could go...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Just found this thread so this is a little delayed - not quite IN the garage but behind it. But Monday and Tuesday I was able to move my flat head motor w/ transmission/clutch/pedals moved to the back corner, the engine hoist, trailer with loader, grader blade, and Jimna 254 tractor parked...

    Barn Door Challenge

That’s because I can’t find an example of what I’m trying to do. However, E900 hardware only handles doors that are approximately 6’ - 7’, which is what the top portion would fall under. Same with the rest of the links: they all can work as an upper door, independent of bottom doors, if I’m...

    Barn Door Challenge

Yea, I've thought of that as well. I believe I'd still have to build up my header and come up with a pulley system or winch system or both. But it definitely has been an idea that's crossed my mind.

    Barn Door Challenge

Thank you for all the replies and the continued conversation. I'm not trying to be difficult or fight against the grain or appear to be ignorant or disrespectful. If it helps you understand - I'm a working maintenance supervisor that has proved to multiples of people that the "impossible" is...

    Barn Door Challenge

I'll draw up some sketches just to clarify.

    Barn Door Challenge

Split the 4 doors in half, vertically. But I can do however many doors that I need to as long as it makes sense, works, and are dutch.

Trying to decide between metal building or wood?

I went with post frame and there are multiple things I wish I would've done differently. I wish I would've created the build list myself instead of Menards/Midwest Bldg, I wish I would've gone with ply posts (my posts have a LOT of knots in them), and I wish I would've spaced the posts 8' apart...

    Barn Door Challenge

I did look into garage doors or roll up doors but I'd have to bring the door header down for the hardware to mount either. Using a plumb bob to hang the post hinges, and then hinge the door in such a way that the weight is centered. Things to consider. Thanks!

    Hello there!

Hello! Agreed. Unfortunately, I don't have enough independence to be reliant on my own work. But, I think it might also be because my father, a residential contractor/carpenter/finish carpenter, has told so many stories of so many terrible customer experiences and the flood/famine of...

    Hello there!

I don't think I've introduced myself, but I'm Forest from Indiana. I was named after my father who was named after his father but I don't have a suffix. We aren't fancy like that. Anyhow - I love building stuff and do everything that I can do myself. I may have a roof being done with...

    Barn Door Challenge

I've got a 20' W x 30' L with 10' side walls and a 4/12 pitch barn. The door opening is 16' w x 10' tall. And I would like to keep the opening as close to that as possible. (I say this because everyone that has ever worked on projects knows that things always get in the way if you let them...
