Arm Breakers and Widow Makers...
I have a couple:
While I use the 1969 Craftsman, I haven't summoned the courage to use the 1932 Thor "Norwegian Arm Breaker" or the 1920 Black & Decker. I do have a drill stand for the B&D so whenever I get the stand restored, I may use the drill with that...
Don't mention it. Always glad to help.
By the way, nice to see you got an extension with the geared rail. Those can be hard to come by. The cheapest way to get these is by buying a complete saw that has them. Which is what I did a year and a half ago when I picked up a 1949 saw for $40...
Dreamer, nice find on the table saw. These are great saws. I have a 113.27521 10" Bench Saw that has served me well for many years.
Your saw is also known as the Craftsman "100". Although, unlike later models where the "100" designation was identified on the saw, these didn't have it.
I...
This past fall I dragged my 1985 Delta 18" Scroll Saw out of my barn/garage and moved it to my basement workshop. I had this saw crammed back in a corner where it had been neglected for quite a few years. Big-time rust on the table.
Once I got it in the basement I started to clean it up...
I purchased this unit last Thursday, 02/06/14 for $50. It's a 397-19580, 1/3 HP, 6 x 3/4 x 1/2. Picture is from C-List ad.
The grinder was a little dirty, but runs great. I'm cleaning it up and putting on a new power cord as the original has started to crack. Also have to JB-Weld the...
As far as the value of your 1405 goes, I would estimate $25 (or less) depending on condition. I see these old drills on Craigslist every so often and $25 is about the average asking price. Even at that, some of them sit there for a long time. They aren't too popular.
Of course, "unique"...
Based on a quickie Internet search, my guess is it's a model 1405 which has a 3/4" Jacobs chuck, reverse switch ring, 375 RPM, 10 amps...
Cool old drill.

Cool old drill rig. I really like these things. In fact, I have a setup like this, only an earlier model.
Too bad the seller didn't take any closeup pictures of the name plates on the drill and the drill stand. Although, that lame Wynn's crossed-flags sticker on the drill would most likely...
I have the Klein version that was given to me about 15 years ago by a neighbor who was moving to a condo in a retirement community. It was in a box of garage junk which included the only two Snap-On tools I have. That'd be two well-used screwdrivers.
It works, but it has a couple of problems...
Gypsy, do a continuity check from the grounding prong to the body of the drill just to be sure it's grounded.
In the last few months I have purchased a couple of these big-*** old drills (arm-breaker/widow-maker variety) and while the 20's-vintage B&D had a 3-prong plug, it was a hard-wired...
As a DIYer this works for me:

It's gotten a pretty good workout this month as I had to replace both front window regulators on my Bonneville. Lotso "popping" practice.

Back about 40-45 years ago I remember going to the hardware store and buying some parts for a couple of Crescent wrenches I had/have. The store had one of those parts boxes with a flip-up lid and dividers that contained various wrench parts in multiple sizes. Just like those special fastener...
10,000 posts! Hard to believe. I wouldn't have guessed that many because it doesn't seem like you post that much. But then, I enjoy your posts so I guess that's why I haven't noticed.
Anyway, keep up the good work. You are exactly the kind of contributor this forum needs. Thanks.

I don't necessarily "collect" tools, however, if I find something that's old, unique, and priced right, I'll buy it and add it to my vintage tool box. Brand is irrelevant.
Although, recently I have been buying vintage electric drills. I like the older, all-aluminum models. Especially those...
I have the same set that I also bought new at Sears.
4 SAE, 3/8 + 7/16, 1/2 + 9/16, 5/8 + 11/16, 3/4 + 7/8
3 Metric, 10 + 11, 12 + 14, 13 + 15
I have been looking for more (larger) metric wrenches in this style but, so far, no luck.

At around 100,000 miles I replaced the rotors on my Deuce. Like you, I couldn't get the bolts out. Twisted the torx bit too.
Finally gave up and took the wheels to my local Harley dealer and one of the mechanics zipped the bolts off with an air wrench in about 30 seconds. He also installed...
