Surface-mount EMT question as I ready for rough inspection

I just recently did all the conduit and wiring in my pole barn. I put in 6 switches, interior and exterior lights, and 20+ outlets including 2-240V outlets for my welders. I only had to have a final inspection, because none of my wiring or conduit is going behind walls. Its all surface...

    BucketBoss tool roll

I have these same rolls. I too love the tool rolls because much of the work I do outside and away from the tool box. I ended up folding the bottoms of mine up and stitching then in place to shorten the pockets. It works so far. No complaints. The best roll I own is the one my Sunex angle...

    Pole building quote, input appreciated

We are practically neighbors. I live in the Auburn area too. Last year I had a 40X60X16 barn built. 2 insulated overhead 16X14 doors with openers, 2 man doors, 4 windows, house wrap, and double bubble roof insulation. Structure cost me about $43K. That did not include site work, floor, or...

    A/V carts

I recently purchased a some old A/V carts on auction. Got 9 of them in total, paid less than $10 each for them. They all have good casters and power strips on them. All part of my plan to have everything on wheels in the shop. The price was right, but I jumped the gun a little bit. I...

    Impact wrenches should be banned!

They previous person probably tightened the bearing to the Nm spec, of like 250Nm instead of ft lbs. Time to throw a piece of pipe over your breaker bar. Many times leverage wins over your impact guns. Use your bodyweight to your advantage.

    Impact wrenches should be banned!

A good cross thread is better than any loc-tite. Of course, this is in jest.

What metal saw to start with?

I'd start with a 4.5" angle grinder and cut off wheels first. You are going to need the angle grinder anyway. Usually can find some pretty good deals on brand new name brand ones. I think I paid like $85 for (2) Dewalt grinders. I have one set up with a cut off wheel and the other with a...

    Pole Barn Bay/Door spacing help!

You could reconsider your door placement and move them to the gable ends. That way you aren't restricted by width and post placement since the trusses are supported on the eave side of the headers. Also, for us in snow country, with the doors on the gable ends we don't have to worry about the...

Laying out outlets on tin walls

I have all my conduit up in the trusses and coming down posts. The transition from the trusses to the walls is a short 5ft length of flexible conduit. That will allow me to move the vertical conduit out of the way when I put the tin up and screwed back into place with minimal effort. Little...

DeadBlows: Which Style For Brake Work?

I like a hard faced dead blow hammer personally. But no matter what dead blow I've used, nothing seems to hit harder than a small (3lb or so sledge hammer) and a 2x4. I know that is an alternative tool/method, but it's even cheaper than a dead blow hammer.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I replaced the passenger side exhaust manifold gasket on my 2009 Dodge 1500. Only had to weld nuts to two broken bolts this time. I also helped a friend do the brakes on his 2015 Ford F-150. He learned how sometimes the only way to get the rear rotors off passed the parking brake shoes is a...

Neophyte - Thanks for the information. doesn't sound like a bad purchase. I'm not machining anything to close tolerances, so it will be perfect for my uses.

    CATIC / Draper Vernier Caliper

Anyone know anything about CATIC / Draper vernier calipers? I just bought a 0-150mm (0-6") caliper at a garage sale. I got about 50ft of 3/8" chain with grab hooks and the caliper for $35. It feels pretty good in hand, but Google hasn't produced much. Both the caliper and the leather sheath...

    Is a pull box needed?

Mark, Thanks for the article. It didn't directly answer my questions, but I found a bunch of useful information on it about the box sizing. Good thing about that, is according to what I've read so far, is that I will be well below the limit for any handy box or junction box. I have also...
