Foam it up air tight? Or let the ceiling area breathe?

Ventilating the roof is vital in high humidity areas like the south. Temp swings will cause condensate that has to be vented.

    Existing Building Extensions

It is not grossly out of square - but it is over 30 years old and no longer exactly plumb. No existing building I have ever added on to, repaired, or installed cabinets in has been plumb and square. It is actually very well built. New one will be 2' taller.

    Dream garage

I am adding on to a 32x40 barn. Initial plan was 32x40 and 9ft walls. New plan is 32x48 with 12 ft walls - cheaper way to get height I needed for lifts and much cheaper then custom trusses (I think). The 8 ft increase will be negligible. I would need bigger if the existing barn was not...

    New Wood/Metal Buildings

I am also considering the metal trusses over a wood timber/wall building. Looks like 4 ft center with wood purlins and I will be using 5 V tin roofing. How do you close in the ends of the metal trusses?

    Existing Building Extensions

Looks like I will kick up the walls about 2 feet higher and raise the roofline 2 feet.

    Existing Building Extensions

I have a 30x40 barn that was built in the early 1970s. Wood frame with board and batten outside. It has a 6/12 pitch with 5 V tin roofing. Its fatal flaw is it has no way to get ceilings higher then 8 feet and I need a lot higher to put in the two lifts I have planned. I am going to pour a...

    Overhang Question

I have three foot overhang on my house. Huge advantage in shade and water control. I add as much overhang as possible even on sheds. I always regret it when I do not.

    Rapid Air compressor tubing

I too am interested in the dryer used with this system. Big issue here in Georgia.

    Shawn's 32x32 two story Garage

I will be mostly lifting C5/6 Corvettes, Porsches, Mustangs, Novas, Chevelles, etc.. - but will need to lift my Suburban, Bronco and tow vehicles at times. Will a symetrical style also work for the cars? thanks... very nice job on the booth

    Shawn's 32x32 two story Garage

Thanks for the info. Since I am still planning I was looking where I should pour the footings for the two post lift - still have not decided if it will be in the center or one side. I really need both stalls as dead level as possible (I set up cars for road racing and that makes chassis setup...

2.5 Car garage finally finished... will never be this clean again!

428 is another great Pontiac engine - you must have pulled it from another "big car". Once again great job with the space.

Software for laying out shop design

I agree - I will always be buying more tools... I am looking at locations of lifts (footings in concrete), doors, windows and in floor lighting locations (under lifts). It would also be nice if all my current equipment fits in the new building.

Approx. ceiling height needed for parking a car underneath a 4-post?

pictures put it in perspective:thumbup: - that setup could use 12' easily

fbi is fun to play with - be nice if it had lifts in the options.

    Shawn's 32x32 two story Garage

Looking to build a ~32x32 shop and I also require a two post lift. How much spacing from the wall did you set yours? I was guesstimating enough space to roll an engine hoist through is what I would use. It will take up a lot of floor space that way but I can store up high to get some back...

Finally Building My 36 X 28 ft 3 car garage

Very impressive - I will go with the transom windows on the back wall - very nice touch. What is your roof pitch? I have been known to mess with Vettes once in while also;)

Nice garage and very nice 66. Love the 8 bolts. I have quite a few of the center caps from those 8 bolts (several different years) and several of the wheel/brake combos as wall art... Did not see any 421 flags so I assume a 389?

Approx. ceiling height needed for parking a car underneath a 4-post?

Cobra4B - funny running in to you here:beer:. Drivinhard has his ceiling at 12'4" with a two post Rotary lift. You can get by with lower on a 4 post if parking and not walking under it to do work is required. Most have a 9'4" height in the literature. My house garage has a beam at 8'6" and...
