My Six Month Garage Build - It's DONE! (In Pics)

Six month update.... finally got the garage exterior painted. Didn't like how the white garage doors "popped", so painted those the trim color as well. Two coats of Glidden gripper primer on the metal and then 2 coats of the trim color.

    Nut & Bolt Storage

Re: Nut & Bolt Storage Picked up 3 sections of a blueprint cabinet at an architectural salvage place in Cleveland for $300. Painted the frames and drawer fronts in Rustoleum gloss black; rolled on. Built a frame to get it up off the floor out of 4x6 post and painted it black...

Tossing out an idea and looking for feedback

I'd buy an old Honda Civic and install a remote starter on it. Start it up while you're drinking your coffee, let it get warm. Enter it. Drive to garage. Walk into garage. What, $700 total?

    Help me pick a heater...

Was in the same dilemma last Fall when purchasing mine. 45k vs 75k for 768sqf, 10 ft ceiling and insulated walls and ceilings. From all I researched the 75k would be too big as it would short cycle. Beacon Morris cites 45k for up tp 1000sqf. Went with a 45k Beacon Morris and it has worked...

Its time to think about ice dams!

Until we get the insulation taken care of in the house and garage, we have used this method when necessary and it works like a charm: Buy about 4 pairs of pantyhose and a bag of ice melt. Cut each leg part off the pantyhose and then fill them with the ice melt. Tie off the open end. Get on the...

    Lets see your workbench

The cabinet is working out great thus far.I didn't like any homemade divider solutions or couldn't find anything that I could use in the amount of bins I needed. Remember, with something like this there are 15 drawers! Makes for a lot of bins! I went here and bought about 400 plastic bins...

    Lets see your workbench

Nope, they are heavy enough full, just to sit on the 2x6 frame. Haven't moved a millimeter since installed.

    Lets see your workbench

Here's what I have: Picked up some lab cabinets for about $40-$50 each from a lab supplier in central PA. The small parts cabinet is a blueprint cabinet from an architectural salvage place in Cleveland Ohio. Set them up in the "U" shape: I decided not to use the lower ones on the end as...

Newly built workbench in the new garage: Wooden lab cabinets on the bottom with Harbor Freight tool chests. The wall cabinets are metal lab cabinets. 15 drawer blueprint cabinets for small parts storage. The top is 1/2" plywood, then 2x10 treated lumber, then 3/4" solid maple tongue and...

Ceiling Fans for 9 foot ceiling

Went with two of these that I ordered from Home Depot. They were on sale at the time for $48 each (+ free shipping). http://www.amazon.com/Westinghouse-7861400-Industrial-Three-Blade-Installation/dp/B001B1C8Q6 They have that nice industrial look. The 5 speed controller that it comes with is...

Refurbing a Vise - What Is This

I picked up a really nice vise at a garage sale for $30. It just needs cleaned up and painted. Took it apart today and found the swivel lock to be frozen solid. The handle on the swivel lock was already bent up and in getting the swivel lock free I really booger-ed it up. Had to use a cut off...

My Six Month Garage Build - It's DONE! (In Pics)

The only thing holding them on is the garage door rail lag bolt. I removed it from the wood, measured for the proper area on the PVC fence post cover. I made a pretty large hole for "wiggle-room" (covered by the garage door track) and bolted it back up. The trim piece at the ceiling and the cap...

My Six Month Garage Build - It's DONE! (In Pics)

The company was Quality A Garages out of Austintown, Ohio (Youngstown suburb). The owner's name is Martin. Really nice guy. The total for the build just for the building itself was just over 10K. Another 4.5K in concrete (floor and 10' front skirt).

My Six Month Garage Build - It's DONE! (In Pics)

As to the quick build of only 4 days. That did not include the excavation of the area, etc. The area it was built has a slight slope and the neighborhood behind is higher and it front is lower, so I specifically had it excavated shallow in the back so the building would end up with the rear at...

My Six Month Garage Build - It's DONE! (In Pics)

Specifically wanted plywood walls just for that purpose... hang stuff pretty much wherever I wanted. I used 3/4" tongue and groove subfloor (Menards Sturdi-Floor). For the heavy stuff like the metal wall cabinets and the flat screen TV mount, I still mounted those into studs, but everything else...

My Six Month Garage Build - It's DONE! (In Pics)

It is a Beacon Morris 45,000 BTU from Menards. Originally bought a 75,000 BTU, but took the advice of many on here that the 75K was too big for 768 sqft. Didn't want short cycling, etc. so I took it back and got the 45K. I have been in there with a starting temperature in the teens and it...

My Six Month Garage Build - It's DONE! (In Pics)

This is pretty much where she still stands, exterior-wise. In the next month, we will be painting the exterior and starting to landscape around the building. Also adding a walkway to the garage from the back patio and rear of the attached garage.

My Six Month Garage Build - It's DONE! (In Pics)

The painting was two coats of Glidden Gripper primer (almost 10 gallons), and then 5 gallons of Glidden Premium Exterior paint, "white on white", satin finish (to avoid showing wall imperfections). Same primer and paint on the ceiling. Both paint and primer was applied with an airless sprayer...
