    Above 1200 Sq/FT Harley Jim's place

Hey Jim, hope you've caught your breath! I watch these folks on occasion as we go to some of the same areas. Haven't had a chance to watch it all yet. Curious to see if you pop up in the background somewhere!

    Machine vise questions

40 years as a machinist and tool maker. I never once used a swivel base. It adds an opportunity for movement while machining and for vibration. If I needed to set a vise at an angle, I'd do the trig to figure out where the vise needed to be.

    Kennedy Tool Boxes

This is my mess. I tried selling some of my mics and such after I retired, with minimal interest. The only thing that sold was the 2 drawer middle box. I guess it'll be the kid's problem when I go! 😆

    Kennedy Tool Boxes

This was my grandfather's (1910- 2005) apprentice box. He became a General Foreman in Caterpillar's gear shop. The Starrett catalog is from 1938. The 3 mics are still as smooth as when new.

    Vice in an apartment. Ideas?

I mounted mine to a double thick plywood base that I can C-clamp to a bench when needed. Not a perfect setup, but for lighter use, it's not bad. It serves my needs, anyway.

    Another new member

Welcome from Central Illinois, across the river from Peeyoria. I've also done some driveway repairs, built a couple of bikes in the basement and ran a couple of alignment shops in a previous life.

Sets that don’t match. Does it bother you?

Same here! If they don't match, they're not a set. But, I'm not gonna stop using them. After over 50 years of tool collecting and abusing, I've got very few sets that are still 100% complete and matching. But I'd like it if they did!

You might be a Redneck if...

In a previous life, many, many moons ago, I had my '73 H2 750 triple based drag bike stored in the dining room over the winter. I put a new clutch in it and had to test it, so I brought in a 2'x2' concrete pad and did a burnout. Or 3, or 4. The new clutch was great! That was 40 years ago, but...

    Vinyl Siding Question.

The siding doesn't have to be level, it has to look level. Agree with the 2 prior posts. But, I'd measure to the existing starter strip before you remove it. It might still be usable, if so, you're halfway there.

    New garage door sound level

I honestly didn't pay attention to the noise level when opening and closing when I replaced a Wayne Dalton insulated door with a Clopay insulated door, but the amount of outside noise stopped by the Clopay vs WD is night and day! Very happy with the Clopay, hopefully yours will be as good.

    5/8" steel drill bit

I'd use a step (Christmas Tree) bit.

3 year old premixed 60 lbs concrete bags usable?

If they're not rocks, they're fine. If they ARE rocks, they make good fill.
