Thanks for the explanation, I didn't really think it was a knock-off, the finish was too nice, but clearly different and your post describes it perfectly. It looks like I got old stock there, or their super long series drivers have lagged somewhat in the upgrade process. I did note that I...

    Multimeter reccommendations

Keysight (Agilent) make some nice meters, I have a U1233A which has worked very well for my modest requirements. I think you get a bit of decent build quality without the extravagant price of a Fluke. That said, if you're using it every day to make money from, just get a Fluke. You'll claim...

Wera never were made in Germany, they were rebranded Norbar, made in the UK. :D Maybe try Hazet if you insist on German made, they have some very good specials on now: https://www.jensputzier.com/hazet/torque-tools/ Not sure about other brands, I have a 10-yr old Gedore with no COO identified...

    Tools from the old world

I got a set of Felo 'Ergonic' a couple of years back. The handle is quite soft, it's comfortable and grippy but perhaps softer than necessary. Other than the printing wearing off they have held up ok to my fairly light duty work. The tips though have not been overly impressive, great grip...

Yes, there are detent balls in the end of the cross bar, which is oval in shape. The cross bar also has a detent notch in the centre, and there is a detent ball in the shaft. So the cross bar is very securely positionable at the centre position, or anywhere up to either end, and a firm...

A week or two ago I got my PB Swiss hammers from amazon.jp. Oooh la la! This was a purely indulgent purchase, even importing them myself these things are quite expensive and hard to justify... took me months of dithering to finally decide to get them. I don't have any PB Swiss and my...

Got my replacement Koken 3715SLK from Amazon - great service! Held it in front of me... closed one eye and squinted hard.... this one looked better but also not square. Confirmed on the lathe: The difference in readings between one end of the handle and the other: Old 2.9mm New 2.1mm...

Last of my recent tool splurge Well, not the last, but the last Japanese... Koken 157H-4, 5 & 6 hex tee-bars. I have had a set of Motion Pro (made in Taiwan I think) tee bars in 8 thru 14mm for quite some time but they've been in their pouch in a drawer of my box and I never seemed to reach...

Yes, all of Amazon - but only for Australian customers. It is due to local tax changes (very much for the worse, for us). Hence me recently buying up tools like the proverbial drunken sailor. :willy_nil

I saw an article about the Amazon boss, and that he was earning $230,000 per minute. Poor ******* only earned $229,950 on the minute I returned that item! :)

Thanks, I went through their 'help' section to ask about it. It led me to a form where I sent an email, I pointed out the return cost etc. An hour later I got a reply email telling me to just keep the item, the return will not be necessary. Very good service, a shame I won't be able to buy...

Hmmm.... I ran through the return process on the amazon.jp website. It was all quite simple and they now say they will send another one and that my return shipping would be free. HOWEVER, I have to puy the shipping up front and hope they refund it when they receive the goods. That's fine but...

Don't feed the trolls folks... :D Anyhow, here's the photos of my slight manufacturing fault Koken. It is enough to be quite visible, ie I noticed it straight away. It's not intended to be not quite 90 degrees for some reason I can't fathom is it? Finish and operation is otherwise...

Koken Fail! I got the last split shipment of my recent amazon splurge today. Koken hex driver t-bars in 4-5-6mm and a 3/8" drive T-bar (spinner type), plus a Hozan inspection mirror as shown off by superautobacs. The hex drive t-bars are very spindly, not really what I expected. Not enough...

That's a great deal, I paid 1010yen, about au$12 plus some freight in a large order, say au$13-14, presently about us$10. The finish in real life is better than in the official photos, where it looks like it's been salvaged from the Titanic! :) This tool is sold as part of their brake...

Other bits: Some other bits that caught my eye as I was filling the bottomless shopping cart... :lol_hitti Spring puller from KTC, I have an unbranded one which sort of works, but is like a screwdriver in design so it's hard to pull a decent strength spring. This little KTC t-bar should do...

Right you are, the hex is quite sunken down in that position and there's little room to swing a spanner but heaps if you just go vertically up. The standard socket was cheaper and more versatile for other 'normal' applications so that was a win.

    Tools from the old world

The answer is presumably so that the company has a range of brands to place at certain price points based on geography/branding value / advertising quantity etc. Just like VAG has Skoda, VW, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini & Bugatti (& others?) in order to have a product for every taste in...
