Looking good. It looks like a clean job. I like the taller door in the center.

It does get pretty cold up here. Our elevation is 8048' (2453 meters). I have seen it as low as -35F. Thankfully that doesn't happen very often. Our driveway is about as long as yours is but probably not as steep. It is steep enough that one can't get up it without 4 wheel drive in the winter...

Steel guy has a couple of hiccups. He is supposed to finish up tomorrow. It's taken 3 weeks to get the steel to this point so I will believe it when I see it. Materials are starting to get delivered tomorrow also. The main contractor for the job has some questions about some of the steel...

I **** at updating this thread. Here are some pics I took today. Floor is done and columns are up. Columns will be cut to height and steel flanges will be installed on the columns tomorrow. Beams are going to be installed tomorrow and Friday.

The steel contractor installed two columns on Thursday. The concrete folks poured the floor on Friday. The steel folks come back out on Wednesday to start installing the rest of the columns and beams. Theoretically the building contractor starts some time next week or the week after. He has ran...

I finally sat down and figured out the total size of this thing. The total size of the bottom floor is 57' wide and 34' deep, including the carport on the one side and the storage area on the other. The size of the main center portion of the garage (1st floor) is 37' wide and 34' deep. The top...

Poured the walls today. It took all five trucks. They will strip the forms and pour the floor next week. Then the steel guys can do their thing.

That's a good question. The main entrance to the top floor is a six foot roll up garage door in the back. There is a cement apron for the entrance. To that apron will be road that is going to be cut at the top for that entrance, like an old bank barn. Above the road on the hill will be a...

I suspect he's an idiot. He probably doesn't know anything about steel structural. That is just a wild guess on my part. He wouldn't even give us the loads on the connections. No idea why he didn't. It might be that the architect screwed up his portion of the design. I know that the space...

Small update: We ran out of 10' forms. Supplier didn't provide all that he was supposed to. Contractor got the rest of the forms Friday and dropped them off. They will finish putting up forms tomorrow and pour on Tuesday. The contractor ordered 5 trucks but hopes we only need 4. The contractor...

Several updates about our new garage. 1. The original plans were useless. The county approved the permit but with a stipulation. The stipulation was that we find another engineer to design the steel connections. This was also stipulated by the original engineer that declined to finish the job...

    Surfactant Leaching

I had the same thing in our master bath when we moved into this house. I cleaned the walls with TSP (trisodium phosphate). It's a cleaner. I then painted the walls. I have no idea what caused it. I thought it might ahve been nicotine but the people tghat lived here before us didn't smoke. We...
