Roofing my new shop need advice please

Update I talked to a roof material manufacturer (GAF) and they told me to use the ice and water on the eaves (code is to have 12 inches extending beyond the interior wall surface) so a 36 inch wide sheet that covers the 16 inch eave overhang and a 6 inch thick wall but I'm going with two 36 inch...

Roofing my new shop need advice please

It's a 5/12 pitch and will be heated in the winter and will have 5 inch gutters. One reason I agree with the roofer is the deck armor is $650.00 and not a proven product as it has only been used for about 10 years. I should get 20 years out of a 50 year shingle and I'm 66. I could use the...

Roofing my new shop need advice please

I'm building a 34 X 37 shop and am at the roofing stage. It's getting ice and water but a roofer told me an underlayment such as IKO cool grey and GAF deck armor on the areas not protected by the ice and water isn't necessary. Any roofers out there have an opinion on this? Thanks Jim

help with my new rotary lift spoa10 trio arms

Thanks for the reply! The spec sheet on this lift says the minimum pad height is 4-1/16" and the arm tube is less than that which makes me think I shouldn't have to lift it to get the arms under it. Would you mind measuring it for me? Thanks Jim

help with my new rotary lift spoa10 trio arms

I realize this is an old post but I'm considering buying a SPO-A10-Trio to lift my 2011 Corvette ZR1 and my 2006 Chevy Silverado extended cab standard box. My concerns are getting the rear main tubing/arm (the tube welded to the hinge) to clear the side skirts on the Corvette. I have only...

Advice needed to bring power into my new garage.

I have 200 amps in the house and I'm going to have a lift 220V, a welder 220V, and a compressor 220V and several receptacles to make things easy. I will obviously have lighting and either floor heat or a suspended gas heater. I would probably get away with a 60 amp service in the garage but...

Thanks for the help. I'll check with the electrician and concrete guy's. I'm sure they have done this before. I just wanted to get a head start on the trenching.

Advice needed to bring power into my new garage.

Well I finally got a building permit to build my dream garage and could use some advice on getting the necessary power cables into the garage from the house. I'm planning on getting a licensed electrician (good neighbor) to help me do all the work to code but I'm at the early stages of...

    Dream garage is in sight

I got some information on this product and it looks good. The company says they have been selling it for this purpose for 8 years with no issues. I have learned however that these panels come in fiberglass and steel and are the cut outs from steel or fiberglass entry doors. Look at the test...

    Dream garage is in sight

Thank you all for your comments. I'm going to check out the fiberglass (Foam with a fiberglass skin) to see if it's suitable. I also checked into DOW Expanded insulation (EPS) VS. Extruded insulation (XPS) and found that the EPS has the same R value per inch and better water repellent...

    Dream garage is in sight

well after applying for a variance for my 34X37 deep garage and jumping through a few hoops and giving the city a few bucks I got the ok to apply for a building permit and should have one in a couple of weeks. As usual a ton of questions are coming up. I'm insulating under the concrete floor...

    Two stage furnace wiring

Thanks for the explanation. It may be my imagination but my furnace seems to have higher blower speeds from time to time? Since I don't have the W2 wire hooked up is that possible? This is why I think I'm confused about this 2 stage thing.

    Two stage furnace wiring

Thanks brewchief but I don't know how a two stage furnace should operate. What advantage it has over a single stage and if I should hook it up. My thermostat is capable of operating a two stage furnace. Thanks

    Two stage furnace wiring

Hello all. I moved into my new to me home last March 2018 and during conversations with the previous owner it was mentioned that the 7 year old forced air gas furnace was a two stage. As time went by as with a new home I was busy fixing up things and wasn't concerned about the furnace, in...

    Smoke detector placement

Further to fireguy's response and coming from a veteran 30+ year fire captain that does know a few things about smoke alarm placement, I would follow the advice given to you by fireguy but I would avoid places like just outside the bathroom where steam will cause false alarms or near the...
