What type of insulation do you have? Size of mini split? When it’s 99° outside, how cool is your garage?

A mini split will run me north of $2500. Window unit, same size as mini will run me about $7-800.

I installed a radiant barrier directly over the frame rails. This gives me a 2.5” air gap and a little more of a gap on the ceiling. I then screwed 2” foam over the radiant barrier.

Just when I’m out there. If I can keep it 75-80°, I’d be happy. I just hate to cut a hole in my siding and install a 24k btu window unit and it not do anything worth a damn.

I understand that. At what point do you know if your garage is insulated enough to accommodate a AC unit without wasting $$ on one?

If the insulation in your garage allows your garage to maintain what the ambient temperature is outside, is that a good indication that your garage could benefit from a air conditioner unit?

I think each 2” panel has a R value of 7.85. Forgot to mention…. The roof and south wall has 2” panel. 16x10 door faces west. The east wall faces a wooded lot and north side gets no sun. The east and north side has 3/4” foam board along with the radiant barrier. It’s not 100% airtight, but I’m...

For the folks that used foam board insulation in your garage, what size window AC unit did you end up going with? How big is your garage?

Central FL here. I just installed a radiant barrier and 2” foam board throughout my building. Along with an exhaust fan it’s very very comfortable in there. I can maintain 85°

Yes I’m looking to keep the building cooler by trying to keep the heat from radiating in too much. I’m not understanding the last paragraph in your reply. You mention about having some type of airflow to carry the heat up and out through the vents but then you mention that I need to seal up any...

You don’t think the airflow between the barrier and the metal siding will be beneficial? What radiant barrier did you end up going with? I purchased “attic foil.”

Correct, the radiant barrier reflects they say 97% of the radiant heat. Living in Florida I will take whatever I can get I’m just not sure if I need to seal off any holes that will be between the foil side and the metal siding.

The radiant barrier will be here tomorrow. Do I need to seal up the corners of my building and every where else outside air infiltrates from with foam or leave the ridge holes open? I’m curious to know if leaving them open and having “airflow” between the radiant barrier and metal siding is a...
