Are welding/ oxy tanks expensive? For welding?

Yes, one other major point is to NOT buy one that says RENTAL. They won't refill it.

    Good Come Along

The heavy duty harbor freight chain unit works good for that. All lever type comealongs are slow. Get an extra length of chain as you will have to stop once and rehook, but the chain units work good. If you do it very often, you need one of their big Badland winches.

Are welding/ oxy tanks expensive? For welding?

Buying tanks reasonably cheaply can be done but you have to know a few things. First, you need to check with your local welding gas supplier and find out what they say are the rules they have for refilling tanks. If you buy a large 300/330 cu ft tank, they are cheaper to refill per cu ft. Ask...

Drills in 2019? My DeWalt 20v has taken up smoking

Good post! I have had to drill some large holes too. He probably used a hole saw rather than a 1.25 drill bit. With a hole saw I usually use my drill press when possible but these brushless drills are amazing. I have an old gear reduction 1/2 inch drill that I have had for close to 50...

Drills in 2019? My DeWalt 20v has taken up smoking

Milwaukee and Dewalt are name tools and I have/had some of both. Milwaukee seems best but expensive. The story on drills these days is to buy a lithium battery power brushless one. They all have great power and will actually hurt you if they bite while drilling. THEY GOT TORQUE. I had...

    Corner work bench or straight?

You should build what will work best for you and your type of hobby. There are a lot of nice benches posted here and the builders should be justifyably proud of their results. In my case, I need workbenches that are functional and strong. I need to be able to set heavy dirty things on them and...

    Welder for beginner

Everyone has things they can say about the Miller vs Lincoln comparison. When and if you buy a decent welder, you will discover lots of things that you didn't think about. You may notice the quality of the drive system is better and stronger. You will find that the 212 comes with an actual cart...

    Welder for beginner

It really boils down to whether someone is willing to spend a reasonable amount of money to aquire a machine that will do everything from thin to thick welding and last a lifetime OR they fool themselves into believing they can do everything they want witha piece of **** because they won't...

    Help to find a drill

Ignore all those other guys....... Just kiddin. I have had several NAME brands of drills over the years. These days the "brushless" drills are what you want as they have phenominal power for their size. They will bite and wrap your wrists around each other if you aren't paying close...

Good to great weld helmet...older eyes

The thing you might want to take notice of (I'm 74) is that you have "somewhat" of a focused view but not a real clear view when welding. Our old eyes don't adjust as well to slight differences in viewing distance. They sell magnifying lenses cheaply that insert into helmets. What I found was...

    Welder for beginner

Are you operating on 110 volts? On 220 it should weld 3/8.

    Welder for beginner

I misspoke when I said "netwelder" which is also out of Indianapolis like IOC. Netwelder is higher, but IOC is about $2200 with free shipping. I have bought 5 welders from them over the years. Quick ship and good customer service. I don't have experience with Cyberweld. Whoever I order from, I...

    Miller Autoset..

Son has a Miller 212 and works great. My former 252 and current 350p have simple reference charts on the front of the machine. For beginning welders the 212 is a great machine. Then after they learn to weld they find it will handle just about any weld that a home shop welder ever does. I 'd...

    Welder for beginner

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO Its just a waste of money and it will set in the corner of your shop. Sorry to be rude, but anyone wanting to learn to weld should not even consider anything that uses flux cored wire or 110 volts. You WILL be sorry. Read my previous post. Don't mean to sound like a...

    Welder for beginner

I didn't read all the posts but did see some reccommendations. So here is the thing..... Everyone always has trouble convincing themselves to part with sufficient money to get a really good welder. First, forget Tig until later in your life. It is a very different animal than a MIG. A Mig is...

    Shipping Container as Paint Booth

I agree about selling the containers and building your own booth. Cutting out the inner walls and patching and supporting the ceiling are going to be major problems..then you have length and humidity and air flow to deal with. Its easier to build from scratch than to deal with those issues...

Metal vs drywall ceiling in garage

Check and see if they can't just spray foam directly to the bottom side of your roof. From what you said, I think you are saying there isn't a ceiling, just the actual roof.

Metal vs drywall ceiling in garage

I put metal on the ceiling in my pole barn and love it. Instead of J channel I just pushed the metal against the drywall on the end walls and brought the drywalls upper edge against the metal ceiling on the side walls. Then I sprayed a foam barrier on the attic side of the metal ceiling. About...

    Finishing pole barn interior

My original suggestion: You can put 2x6 boards crossways between the beams. One at floor level, and one at the 4' level and another at the 8' level. You may have to remove a little foam here and there, but basically just span the ten feet. I'd use 3" deck screws to fasten the 2x6s. Then just...

Suggestions for my new garage-Pole building or conventional?

When I built my 40x60 "pole barn" years ago, I used conventional stud walls with 2x6 "studs" 12 ft long. Started with treated wood on the bottom. Then stood up the wall with another 2x6 bottom and top and all the "studs" were 12' 2x6s. Then purlins made from 2x4s. You assemble it on the ground...
