Is Craftsman the Rodney Dangerfield of Tools?

Agreed. The reputation that Craftsman has been more or less coasting on lately was hard won, and should not be squandered for short term gain. IMO the professional line should be intelligently expanded with an emphasis on quality, even if it means a moderate price increase. The mid level...

    Wish I had money.....

Dammit, I hope someone buys that soon. I am drawn like a moth to matching sets of nice tools.

    Which ratcheting wrenches to buy?

I have a set of the polished Craftsman reversibles - no complaints here.

    Sears $5 coupon

I have used them in 3 stores here with no problems. True that in one store the department manger asked me to use no more than one per day, but the others just scan them in and ring up the sale.

    Dissapointed in Craftsman

Haha, make sure you still check the back of the packaging: "Etched in China":shocking:

Proto big dawg on Ebay for $10.00!!

That looks like a custom finished knurling, probably in response to another thread where concerns of aggressive knurling hurting the hands were expressed.:lol_hitti

    EASCO Ratchet

Seconded. It was the strength and reliability of those ratchets (43187-1/4 regular, 43781-3/8 regular, 42794-3/8 long flex, 44977-1/2 regular, 44983-1/2 long flex) that sold me on the quality of Craftsman. Since they have always been available exclusively through the catalog, they never really...

    EASCO Ratchet

Unintentional I'm sure, but funny as hell in a sad sort of way.

    Bad day with Craftsman

Yeah those are pretty sweet. I swore by the older style fine tooth round head ratchets, (catalog order only), 20 years of use and they were almost indestructible. If the new ones are anywhere near as good as those were I will be happy.

    Bad day with Craftsman

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I have never had an SK ratchet act like that, but then again I had never experienced a similar C-man failure before. Broken ratchets for sure, but not a defect in the housing.

    Bad day with Craftsman

Now that I finally found the relevant pics I can comment intelligently. The repair kit will probably do little if anything for the conditions described. I experienced similar problems with the 44833, and after close examination found the culprit to be a slightly off center ratchet direction...

    Bad day with Craftsman

I knew I was not the only one who plays with new tools before actually using them!:lol_hitti

    Check out this score!

I am afraid that will no longer suffice. I have reconsidered my Buy American stance and arrived at the conclusion that some states may have sought statehood just so they could unload cheap tools with Made in the USA stamped on them to patriotic purchasers. Henceforth I must insist on only tools...

    Sears $5 coupon

I have used 6 of the coupons so far, and will probably return to the feeder bar a few more times before all is said and done. The first time I presented it, the cashier rang the manager who examined the coupon and ASKED that it be used not more than once a day. This sounded entirely reasonable...

    s&k buying from danaher?

Dang, swap out the product names for those of people and that could be the line up for a Donahue show on bizarre love triangles. Ask the guy on the Danaher truck next time he stops by. :lol_hitti

What do you have in your box?

They were stolen from a public storage facility. I was forced into a condo with no garage or other means of secure storage after a messy (read: destroy everything that I had built over 25 years) divorce. Luckily I had one portable chest in the car and a machinist's chest in the spare bedroom at...

What do you have in your box?

Fess up, what brands of tools do you have in your boxes? In no particular order: Craftsman Snap-on S&K Knipex Gedore Channelock Proto Klein Allen Williams Rigid Sandvik Wright Facom Stanley Wiss And an unknown set of pseudo tools bearing the imprint Japan. They were the first set of tools my...

Will Snap-on move production to China?

Amen to that. And I extend that thinking to every item considered for purchase. Now if only I had used the same criteria prior to marriage... :lol_hitti
