    4 post lift problems

Have you got any weight on it? Seems mine had a hard time coming down when I first got it.. Put some weight on it and it worked fine.. Since the cable goes through a bunch of pully's and the cable is stiff it tends to hang up a little with no weight on it. Dave

Attention Gear Heads: What to do with old race fuel cans?

They make a cutter to work in a air chisel.. Here is a link to some Part # 1955 cuts tight corners and part # 31958 works great for straight cuts. After using these a little hammer and dolly work on the sharp edges and they will look good. Oldforge Tools Dave

Looking for advice on drywall in garage

Ditto. I remodeled my 3 bedroom, 2 bath. Used a spray bottle with water and scraper. It came off in sheets..Only recommendation I'd add is use a garden sprayer if you have a lot to do cause you will definately build up your forearms pumping a hand held sprayer. Also I went to Harbor Frieght...

    Torn between two houses

Chris, Look real hard at putting the shop that close to the alley. Two things come to mind, first is you "will" be getting a bigger trailer for your cars, it's just natural progression. Second, even with a open trailerit looks like you will be to close to park the trailer in front of the shop...

    Shop Ceiling Insulation help

Just a FYI. Using the on line calculator I want to go from a R20 (estimate) to R40. The calculator said I need 185 bags of celulose. At 8.45 per bag it will cost me 1563.00 plus tax to do it myself. I called a local well known company and they are going to do it for 800.00. I haven't figured...

    Contractors: Questions on Remodel Costs

Chris, My example may be the exception rather than the rule. I bought a Rhem 15.5 SEER unit and installed it myself, (I have a friend that silver soldiered the lines and pulled a vacuum), payed him 200.00 and payed 2400.00 for the unit, new lines, and a filter base. I thought I got a good...

    Vinegar & Rust

I have a "small" 4 foot sheet metal box brake I bought for 100.00 a few years ago. Where ever the guy stored it it rusted bad enough that it was all locked up and would not work. I had it in storage for the past couple of years and finally brought it home and decided I needed to get it working...

    Roll up Garage Door

Try this place. Garage Doors They were the cheapest I found on line. I didn't end up using them because I found a metal building supplier that sold them to me for a little less and I saved shipping because I picked them up. Check around for someone that supplies parts for metal buildings. Who...

Whats ur opinion on the ford 8.8 rear?

I don't disagree. The Dana 60, 12/10 bolt and others are the same design (pressed and spot welded). I have seen several leaking oil there. I actually broke one tube loose on my dana and they were welded completely. The mustang above has been hitting the strip every weekend since 2004 and has...

Whats ur opinion on the ford 8.8 rear?

Well I may as well add my $.02. I build race cars for a living now. I have beat the 8.8 rearend up in my capri years ago and never hurt it. I built a Mustang a few years back and the owner insisted on keeping the 8.8. I narrowed it and used Moser axles, aluminum rear cover, 5.14 gears. I also...

    30x40 shop stick vs pole

Just something to think about. When I had my pole barn built, I found out they can build it on top of the slab like a stick built. They use an L bracket bolted to the concrete and post. Why does your sub division not like pole barns (Home owners association?)? Like has been said, make sure you...

    Roll up doors

My garage is 40x60. The door company recommends 18-24 inches. Mine has 14' walls and I installed one 12'x12' door 3' from the side on the gable end. The door is roughly 8 inches from the bottom of the truss after I installed it. I would allow 24 inches unless you are going to put the door close...

1000 feet from the road...bringing in utilities ?

Agree.. Go here first.. Where I was in Kentucky it was underground and the power company furnished the first 75 feet of cable to the meter. I furnished the ditch, conduit and everything else (meter box, post, and everything from meter into shop). Here in Texas it is overhead and I furnished...
