Milwaukee's latest Impacts vs Old School Air

The 1/2" HT M18 has your name written on it :) I think we might be as "deep in the rusty rust of rust belt" as you are..ha.

This is the short version (under 3 minutes) of the Milwaukee impacts vs my 20 year air impact. I've been shooting the main videos in opengate resolution (higher than 4K resolution) for the main 16:9 format YT vids, then doing a shortform edit using the same footage in vertical format for the...

Milwaukee's latest Impacts vs Old School Air

Used it tonight on a nicely rusted 2015 Subie...it is a beast! Given our winter salt situation, I should have grabbed one years ago.

2015 Subaru Outback - 200K kms - new front calipers and brake fluid flush. My brother and I did up my Dad’s Subie on the hoist tonight with new front calipers. Kind of impressed as the ones we put on were not reman’s but new from a company called ProMax. Maxx55 is the product name. Price was...

How to adjust kettle thermostat on a popcorn machine.

Ditto, never heard of one. Thanks for posting up your findings, pics and info :) Can you post more details, links etc for the simmer device? I did a project to regulate a rice cooker temp pretty precisely using a Zigbee device and temp probe, and vary power to the element to maintain wax in...

Milwaukee's latest Impacts vs Old School Air

Yes exactly. When I first tried the m12 on a 250 ft lbs nut it removed it but not after hammering away at 105db for 10 seconds. The M18 high torque took it off in about a second, as did the air gun.

Milwaukee's latest Impacts vs Old School Air

In the comparison on the 250 ft lb trailer ball, the air impact took that off pretty much instantly, but the m12 hammered away at it for 8-10 seconds. You’re right though in that my 20 year old IR 231 clone is 20 years old and still going strong with just occasional oil. Now, the two...

Adding wall insulation to existing walls - Cold Climate

I did experiment with open cell injection (had one entire wall done this way), but in my opinion, cellulose is just as good, and likely a better fire barrier as well. It's also a lot cheaper and any DIYer can install it. HD rents the equipment out. Anytime I've had a wall open for renovation...

New fast EV chargers and three phase power

I think this is a non issue really. Home charging is almost always overnight when most folks are parked, and rates are cheaper. Cooling loads also tend to be less for those in warm climates. I would suggest that very, very few people need to anything faster than a 240V@40A charging setup. I...

Adding wall insulation to existing walls - Cold Climate

This is a good applicaton for blown in cellulose. You can rent the blower and do it yourself via holes in your drywall...also easy to patch up. The trick is to find any horizontal fire stops in the wall and make sure you put holes at the top of each cavity. I did our entire (100 year old)...

Milwaukee's latest Impacts vs Old School Air

I think the pick of the litter (for me) has to be the M12 1/2" with the 5Ah HO battery. It's small enough to get back behind the brake calipers for service work, weighs just over 2lbs, but also has enough power to remove a 250 ft lb trailer hitch ball with no issues. The M18 HT will likely...

Milwaukee's latest Impacts vs Old School Air

Sunday was tire swap day (winters to summers) so of course I fired up the hoist and did all the inspections, brake servicing, and tire swaps on our two EVs, and the ICE Highlander. On the last run of Black Friday there was some good deals on the Gen2 M12 Stubbies, and the M18 High torque. I...

This was a short video shot during the rather marathon day Sunday of swapping over tires and checking out the "fleet" for needed service, dents, dings and all that good stuff. Not sure I’ll be using the old 1/2” air impact any longer…

I would not complain being your neighbour. I’d have to find my old VW Westfalia and buy it back too :-)

I just get cranky at the transition times. I need to work out more …ha. Now of course it’s not just my own/wife vehicle to maintain but the kids, senior parents and assorted neighbours to help out. Evac on the Beast. That was an insane fire.

The last video on EV charging efficiency has done quite well, over 10K plays over the last week or so, but raised questions that warranted a follow up. It's an overview of EV home charging using four common receptacles that most homes already have in play. I also do a real world demo to show...

Pouring slab on top of existing slab

We did a 4500 square foot over pour in zone 7A (down to -35C in winter) 2” polyiso, steel grid, radiant tubing, 2” concrete. We drove a hydraulic pallet stacker with heavy pallets, daily. Zero issues. Doing it again I would have skipped the radiant expense as we had air handlers in there with...
