    Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT Mixed Grill - From London , England - GRIZZMAKES world

Just a tip on the seam sealer. Don't apply it directly to bare steel, as it doesn't have any corrosion resistance. Only use it over pre-primed metal. It'll fail early done this way. The best way to do it is 1 light coat of etch primer, 2 more coats of primer, then seam sealant. Keep up the...

    Coming soon - New garage!

Always interesting to see how wiring is done in other countries. I see that you've not sleeved any of your earth conductors in the distribution board. Is this normal practice in the US?

Dom’s English suburban garage workshop build.

In fairness, the neighbour there doesn't really have any options to build a garage! Keep up the good work, will be watching with interest.

    Light Fixture Layout Collections

Just wanted to stop by and thank Platonic for the heads up on the visual interior tool. I used it to plan my lighting and it's turned out just perfect. Without this I would have guesstimated about 2/3rds of the lighting it recommended and not been happy. Once again many thanks :) Let there be...

    Vapor barrier: Yes or no?

Well, usually he'd have to lay and compact a layer of sand before putting in the liner to avoid the risk of puncture, which will take a little more time and a little more money... Better to have one and not need it than the other way round, it's not like you can add it later!

    UK 20' x 14' new garage build.

Welcome, nice to see another UK member here :) Garage is coming along nicely. I'm into VW's as well. Have had a 1955 Oval since 1983!

How to mount 4' Shop Lights between rafters that are on 2' centers.

OK, If you have anything similar over there, you could use Herringbone joist struts. My lights don't weigh much as they're LED's and my spacing is 450mm so they're strong enough, although lightweight. They're available in 660mm centres as well, so should work for your 2ft centres. You might want...

    Favguys garage build

Thanks for the comments guys. Ruxpin, There do seem to be very few in the UK today who undertake project work and therefore need/want decent workshop space. I hardly know anyone who doesn't just farm out even the most routine work to a local garage... I think the excessive prices for any...

    Favguys garage build

Regarding my lighting solution, I was lucky enough to snag a set of 20, 5ft, twin fluorescent fittings from a retail shop upgrade for only £30! I'm gutting them to convert to LED tubes and will be fitting a total of 18, in 6 rows of 3. This should give me pretty good lighting. Each bank of 3...

    Favguys garage build

Hello all, I've been making slow progress on the garage due to being a bit under the weather for a few weeks with a chest infection. Better now and finally got a bit done, so here's an update on the state of play. Got the king posts installed in the roof structure: Started tiling at last...

    Room reflectances, Visual Interior Tool?

The tubes I'm using, Lumilife, have a 200 degree beam angle, so hopefully the reflectors will have a small benefit as I've already bought them! If nothing else, the fittings look nicer with them on I think, lol!!

    Room reflectances, Visual Interior Tool?

Many thanks :) It's the way we build roofs in the UK. Quite different from the US. The usual procedure is roof trusses, then a waterproof liner, (often black in colour) followed by roofing battens with either concrete or clay overlapping tiles hung over them. In a house (and some garages)...

    Room reflectances, Visual Interior Tool?

Hi again, When using the Visual Interior Tool, what would be the best % figures to use for open rafters with a black roof liner, matt/eggshell white walls, & light grey floor paint please? (The 5ft twin LED striplights I'm using will have white metal reflectors behind the tubes to help throw...

    LED colour choice...

So, I'm turning my thoughts to lighting now on my build. I'd appreciate anyone's input on what colour they've chosen for LED strip lighting and how you've actually found it/if you're happy with the choice. The last time I did a lighting install was 25 years ago with T12 fluorescents and the...

    Favguys garage build

Not had much time to work on the garage over the last week or so, but did get a couple of small jobs done. First job was to add a buttress to the centre support pillar. This was missed out when the brickwork was done due to a misunderstanding. I didn't want the bricklayers back on site as...

Thanks, Not sure about projects yet. I do have a 1955 Beetle that I restored back in 1988, It's pretty nice, but my skills were more limited when I first restored it, and some compromises were made. I'm thinking of doing a complete re-restoration to museum standards on it now they've got more...
